Ok.... I have an ASPR pony and I was thinking i'd like to show him this summer in driving. Are ASPR classes well attended (I'm thinking Deleware Area 1 show)? Is it worth me trucking him 10 hours or am I going to be showing against myself? I looked at the rulebook about showing them and found SQUAT for rules..mostly it was about which classes they offer..anything I should know about?

Generally I think the classes would be fairly light, but I suggest calling your local club and asking how many ponies traditionally compete in the different divisions.

Last year there wasnt to many ASPR classes offered at the shows we did. The ones that were offered i dont know if i would consider them light, you were not in a class by yourself but they were kind of light. If you look in the issues of The Journal, especially the issue that has Congress/World results where they show all the Grand Champion pictures, they have page after page after page of ASPC and then maybe 5 or 6 pictures of ASPR on the last page. Last year i see 2-5 horses in each ASPR driving class so its moderate.

Maybe you can call ahead of time and see how many entries are in the classes so far?

I believe the ASPR ponies show under the same rules as the Moderns.

Lewella - you are right. ASPR does follow the same rules as the Modern ASPC ponies. I would say from my judging that there have been very few horses in these classes. I would say that this is improving lately with the increased promotion done by the registry and the breeders.

Ok so as for rules anything under the "modern shetland" section is probably safe to follow? That's a good start! It should say something in the section as to "rules for Moders apply to ASPR" or something..LOL i was like "ok what the heck are the rules for them" LOL I'm new to shetlands all together and really dont' have a clue. I figured the rulebook was the first place to start..LOL
