Just wanted to post a current pic of our work in progress. My step-dad and brother were here again this past weekend to help hubby, they got the roof on, and the back of the barn steeled. It's going much slower than hoped, between the weather, and hubbies work schedule, it's just not done yet. I have to give kudos to my hubby, because this man is putting his heart and soul into this barn, and wants it done as bad as I do. I think it was a bigger project than he thought it would be, though I imagine if they weren't so busy at work, it would have been done by now. He works all day, and then comes home to work on the barn for about 3 hours in the dark! Either way, done or not, I think it's just awesome, and I'm so proud of him for the job he's doing!
He's going to put on the big slidding doors on each end, steel the sides, finish the little bit on the front, and then call it a barn for the winter! With all the snow we have, there's no way we'll get even a temporary fence up, so we'll board up the front doors, and the boys will have free rein to run the whole barn for the winter! I had hoped the boys would be home for Christmas, but it's looking like it's going to be a couple weeks yet, but at least there's an end in sight!
In the picture, you can see there will be 4 pens in the front that will go out into the pasture in the front of the barn. Each of those 4 openings will have sliding doors that can be closed for feeding, and bad weather. They'll be able to come and go as they please when they are done eating, and inside the pen fronts will be finished with individual sliding stall doors. The feed room will be right inside the service door, and there are two big sliders going on each end so we can drive through with either the trailer, or a load of hay.........or a mini and cart!
