WE all feel like prices are terrible in todays market and , looking at recent sales reports, it has certainly been a buyers market. Boy I wish I had been at the Heritage sale , I would have come home with a few mares myself. Anyway. I recently entered into a barter with two farms and got real quality mares and what I feel were good price equivalents for the horses I was selling.

I want to thank John Herring from JHK Miniatures in OK for purchaseing my stallion Michigans Remmington Steel and wish him continued success with him. PArt of his payment was this lovely little mare, DWH Bantams Little Day Dream, a Bantam Buckeroo daughter who is bred to Little Kings Buck Caesar, a Buckeroo son. This is my first Buckeroo bred mare all 31 inches of her, and , John, I think you measured her big, shes not that tall here and I dont think Worleys shrunk her on the way! lol

Also wanted to thank Dr Cheryl Powell for my little Marily Monroe, a little palamino 31 incher bred for 2009 which we bartered for my big ASPC AMHR mare L&Ks Mikes Red Rose Edition.

So you see, you can still make changes, sell horses, buy horses and come out ok. We are reducing the size of our horses , not the size of our herd because our farm patronage has changed. We have lots more kids and elderly that visit and help out and my hot Bs are just a bit too much for them and they get frightened. The littler horses are less threatening to them.

Who would have thought that I would be having more littles than bigs!!! lol we are enjoying them tho.

I have a friend with scottish deer hounds and we laugh together because now her three dogs are bigger than 5 of my horses!

Introducing our little Dream girl.

Congrats!! Should be a nice foal.

Congrats to John Herring on a nice stallion to!

Good for you, Lyn! Day Dream was born across the street from me and she's a nice little mare.

I believe in the barter system too!

I just added two new (old?) mares in my herd. Redrock Neon Starlight (thanks, Stephanie 3C) and Redrock News Flash (thanks, Ron, Ash Creek Farm) have found their way back to Redrock to join the gang here.

Very nice mare! I love Bantam babies. Too bad there aren't more of them around. A mare I currently own had a foal by him and he was outstanding. He's owned by a forum member I believe and he was top 4 world sr stallions a few years back.

She is so cute! Her head and color reminds me so much of my little gelding, Skipper (Derby's son).

I really like that head shot of her, really pretty!!

As Becky can tell you, I too love the barter system and have acquired horses that way several times!

She looks sweet Lyn! Congrats!

I've done trading in the past and it is a lot of fun!

I think bartering is the bomb also.

I am currently working a deal to trade a really nice mare( I sure will miss her) for a new cart, new harness and driving training for my stallion.

I think trading horses is a great idea too!

I would love to trade a foal for a great dane pup , mastiff pup or rottweiler pup, wish I knew someone that was interested in that. Hint... any one??? If you know of anyone, please pm me!

My sister farms and she frequently barters for many things, like machinery repairs for cuts of beef, venison, chickens etc. Eggs, for homemade jelly,Mowing of hay fields, for other services etc, you get the idea.

Especially with the economy, it make so much sense. But really it always did! Bartering has been around a long long time!

Good for you!!

Robin

We've done some horse trades in the past, and actually just this fall traded a mare for some little boys.
