Share this Review: "I was very hesitant about purchasing Black as Knight because I thought it would be a waste of money. After trying it out, I GURANTEE it isn't a waste of money at all. This worked wonders on my Thoroughbred and he is even blacker than ever before. I noticed a difference in 3 weeks, and others at my barn constantly come up to me telling me they can't believe how black he has gotten and so quick too. I strongly recommend this to anyone!"

Share this Review: "I have two Friesian mares that were sun bleached to the point everyone thought they were bays. After one month on Black as Knight, they are amazing. Their coats shine and are as black as they should be. It is early fall and I use two scoops once a day. The girls love the taste and everyone is amazed at how beautiful they are. My hubby even says it is totally worth the money!"

Product Description:

All natural and healthy - oils, seaweeds, spices, and more - this may be the finest coat conditioner you ever try on any color horse - even pintos where the dark gets darker and the white has "snow blinding" shine! It is the only product on the planet that we know of that actually keeps horses, dark, rich, soft, and shiny all year round. Two tablespoons per day keeps the fading away! Also good for hooves, manes, tails, and coats of every color. Black as Knight is carefully designed to enhance the coats on blacks & bays, and to assist in providing every possible means of keeping those dark coats rich, shining, gleaming all year around - from the inside out. Packed full of oils and spices known to provide the dark horses with the darkest and richest coats possible, a small amount goes a long way.

Note for Competitive Riders: Some competitive riding associations prohibit specific ingredients. If you are showing, please check with your association for rules and regulations.

Instructions:

Administer approx. 2 heaping tablespoons daily by mixing with horse's grain. How much Black as Knight will my horse get with the SmartPak maintenance dose? The SmartPak maintenance dose is the weight and volumetric equivalent to 2 “heaping” tablespoons. One level tablespoon equals 15cc’s. The SmartPak Maintenance dose is 39cc’s (30% more than 2 level tablespoons) and will weigh approximately 21.34gm. Due to the consistency of Black as Knight, there can be some slight variability from serving to serving in SmartPaks. It is very easy to increase the daily serving size in SmartPaks by using the custom dosing function. Instead of our two scoop maintenance amount, you could give three scoops (32.01 grams), or even go as high as six scoops per day. The manufacturer recommends administering double or even triple the maintenance dose if your horse’s coat is particularly faded, if you use of a brand of fly spray/show polish that causes fading and/or if you wash your horse frequently in chlorinated water. As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Coat color enhancers are only as good as the coat color of your horse. If your horse is a black horse with red highlights or a smokey black, the coat enhancer is only going to be able to do so much.

You will need to keep your horse inside away from the sun at all times. Only let it out at night.

There are very few true "blue black" (non fading black) horses out there.

Ok thank you both. I do keep him in a fully covered stall but he does get out for at least an hour a day. I will look up that product thanks for all the info on it do you use it??

I wonder if it might work on my yearlys they have like this baby dull fuzz and I was giving them flaxseed but it didn't seem to help it a lot. But now their at the trainers, maybe I'll get this and take it up there with me and have her put it in their feed. Thanks for bringing this topic up again, TJ

We used black oil sunflower seeds, and hot oil baths. This seemed to help enhance the color of all of our horses.

We also used shampoo for black horses when bathing before a show.

We've had a lot of luck just using PAPRIKA a half teaspoon with each ration gives them a slightly darker richer shade once clipped but takes at least a couple of months of use to see the differance. All ours are out in full sun all summer including the ones shown some just no matter what you shove down there throats fade out while others are what they are a nice deep shade...we used the paprika on a black for years and she was never washed out or faded before or after a clip except for the top layer of hair on the mane and tail from the sun...for that there's dye.

I"ve got a few true blacks and they do not fade at all, however their manes and tails do. I don't use anything for color enhancement.

Black as Knight is basically paprika and alfalfa.

You need to start using the paprika in the spring and it will help some with the fading in the summer.

Yep, one of the main ingredients in BOTH Black as Knight and Dark Horse is paprika! IMO, I think the vitamin benefits obtained from the sun far outweigh any fade that may happen. I have black horses that don't fade away and they are outside everyday, all day, they are after all not "mushrooms". As long has your feed has some grain (soy or corn) or added oils, their hair coats should be healthy enough to take a little sun!

At one time I was using BOSS, but had to be careful, it will add weight to the horse. I have one black, he is kept in some of the day during show season, then out all night. I enhance his mane/tail 2x yearly, and he is good to go.

Has anyone tried 'black hairspray' for manes and tails? It was suggested to me by someone that shows big halter horses. It's super easy and just washes out. I have bought a can but don't need to use it yet as I have dyed Willows mane and tail recently.

Yes l have and it was a major mess and never again didn't go on even was all spotty if there's show sheen on the M/T's shoe polish has worked well for the top layer if there isn't to much to cover though you need to brush it right before you go in the ring or it gets kind of stiff and doesn't tend to move...

I have used Shapley's Black hair spray with great success! Although I will warn, once you put it in, you cannot put too many other products on it, it will run. So if you have a horse with white under the tail or mane - you must protect it until the hair spray is dry.

I have found that using a loose mineral/vitamin top dressed on grain will enhance red coats and black coats. I also have found that Hair just for men will work if your tail and mane have been sunburned badly, for a quick fix.

I have never used boss, some people have great success with it. Others have not seen any difference.

Hope this helps!

I have 7 blacks. 2 are smokey blacks. In winter the smokeys have some off color at some points in their coats. But once shed all are BLACK........out all day free choice as I use run-ins in pastures.

They are consistantly fed a high quality, soy based, pelleted feed.

I add flaxseed from mid Feb thru August. Feb-April at each feeding, then 2-3 times a wk. All horses here shed well, shine and have intense color. Most have very "tight" coats. I saw a difference with the flax from 1st yr I used it in faster shed. Even the white shines. I feel it helps with intensity of all colors via the Omegas in it but, a good feed yr round in paramount.

Bess how much flaxseed do you feed say to a 32-34 mini? I feed 2 Tablespoon per day and get wonderful shine but the shedding still takes FOREVER maybe I'm not feeding enough?

Bess IMO I wouldn't feed anymore Flaxseed (ground) then what your feeding. But others might say differently. My girl is 32 and my guy 33.25 and that's what I feed. I clip so I don't worry about the shedding though. TJ
