I have been told that the best Start to Finish brand treats were the black licorice ones. However, those are no longer available in Canada--I buy the peppermint ones and the horses do like them just fine.

I'm just curious--can you still buy the

licorice ones in the US? Or is there any other brand of licorice flavored treats that horses really go for? If so--where do you buy them?

I don't know where to by the treats, but the line of feed I use is licorice flavored (pellets)

I wondered about that--I just hate the stuff so haven't bought any to offer to the horses.

. They do like the peppermint treats well enough so really I can just keep buying those.

I tried the manna pro treats, which ate apple flavored, an they like those too--in fact little Gold started eating those and now likes the peppermint ones too--previously he has refused to even try the peppermint ones.

We can get the anise flavored pellets locally but I find the horses prefer the mare/yearling pellets which are less strong smelling.

I thought of the licorice start to finish treat were available in the US I'd try a bag just to see if the horses did prefer them. I'm probably better off sticking with the kind they like. Just have to find something now that Tim likes--that pony is determined to not like treats.

Likely won't help you in Canada, but I have yet to find a horse that doesn't like the Dumor treats from TSC, they have two or three different flavors, mine like them all, but usually I get the apple ones.

Hey, research it before you give the real candy. I heard a news report about 6mos ago that too much black licorice can cause something very bad in people. I think it was a heart attack, but if not, then maybe a stroke. I do not know how much was required for it to be bad, but... I don't reckon you would be feeding handfuls of it, but it was something that caught my attention because I like it myself, and know that's a flavoring (anise) in the feed I've used for years.

I just use a good quality soft black liquorice from the supermarket. They have to share them with me. One for the horse, 2 for me.
