Yesterday I stopped on the way home from work to buy a plant to give to a coworker for her birthday. I put the plant on the kitchen counter, decide to start dinner before repotting the plant. So I'm browning the beef, and I hear this sorta wooshing sound from behind me. I turn around, any one of my cats, the persian, had jumped up on the counter to smell the plant, while doing so, his tail went over the candle on the counter, and his tail was lit up like a torch. Now, this particular cat is not the sharpest tack in the box, so to speak, so he was just a smelling the plant, completely oblivious to the fact that his tail was on fire. So I walk over and pat out the flames. Being a Persian, he had a lot of tail so the fire didn't get in far enough to burn his skin. So my husband, who is watching TV in the other room says "What's that terrible smell?" At which point I tell him the cat had caught himself on fire. He comes running in and says we've got to get all the black, crunchy stuff off so he won't like it and swallow any of it. Well, Apex loves to be brushed so we're brushing the burn stuff off his tail and my husband remarks that burnt cat smells terrible, at which point I say "Hey, I'm from Louisiana, I don't burn cats, I blacken them!!!"

Apex is fine, still unaware his new name should be The Incredible Torch. His tail is much less fluffy than it was at this time yesterday.

I told my coworker that it was all her fault. If I hadn't gotten a plant for her, I wouldn't have caught the cat on fire and almost burnt the house down!! How's that for shifting the blame?

Just thought I'd share my funny from yesterday.

Aw poor kitty. It's unbelievable the trouble cats can get into without even trying. I have 5 cats and somedays I wonder why.
