If you have read this book, then please let us know what you thought of it. What was your overall opinion (likes/dislikes) of the story?

**If you haven't read (or finished) this book, then you may want to stop reading here.**

I just finished this book this morning, and I really enjoyed it a lot!

It wasn't unpredictable, but it was very enjoyable with endearing characters and quite a few things that made me laugh.... especially liked the crack about the centerfold for a poultry catalog

I look forward to listening to more titles from this author. My mom said another is due this year.

I haven't gotten this book yet, can't wait to read it, it looks like a really great read.

I haven't read the above posts, but just wanted to say I'm half way through chapter 5 and I cried. Ceecee and Mrs. Odell remind me of when I was young and went to visit my old neighbor Mrs. Buss. Her and I played dolls together and would sit on her front porch swing all the time while my parents were at work...she was my best friend for many years as no children lived near where I grew up. As I got older I stopped visiting her so much until one day I just never went back...feeling guilty now, I never told her how much her friendship meant to me.

I'm done...I too enjoyed it...although not packed with action and adventure, it was still interesting. I like her descriptions and could easily picture all the ladies in the book, except for CeeCee for some reason. I could see the flowers and the old historic fancy southern houses. It reminded me slightly of Harper Lee's "To kill a Mockingbird"...the writing was similiar. My favorite part was the traveling brassiare! Lol. I would definately read another one of her books.

Jill, what are you reading right now? Since I'm all caught up (finally), I need something to read!

Right now, I'm reading The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, by Jonathan Evison and I love it! It's made me laugh or giggle out loud several (plus!) times. Hooked me from the first page

PS I wish I could underline and do some formatting when posting from my iPhone!

I just finished it!!! I really, really enjoyed it. I teared up quite a bit every few chapters or so. I loved all of the characters, especially since nearly all were women who gave you that grandmothery feeling. I could definately relate to CeeCee because I've always felt closer to older women, then to ones my own age. My closest friend (and partner in crime) is 67 years old, and I'm 32.

I would definately read more books from Beth Hoffman. I love how she tied everything up, and how time offered CeeCee the beginning of acceptance and forgiveness towards her mother and father.

I finally finished! I mostly read in bed, and the past couple weeks have been so busy that I was more interested in sleeping than reading, so it took me a little while.

I really liked all the characters - very real and lots of fun. Possibly with the exception of CeeCee - I just felt like her "voice" wasn't that of a 12 year old girl at times. and that her character wasn't all that consistent. At the end, when she wasn't wanting to wear the party dress, but she wouldn't tell Aunt Tootie - I felt like she'd come past lying to Aunt Tootie, and that she should have known that Aunt Tootie would understand how she felt. Earlier in the story I'd have bought it, but at that point in the story it didn't ring true for me.

Anyway, overall, I enjoyed it.

I just finished the book, and it was okay. I usually don't read this type but did enjoy the southern period. It also reminded me of To Kill A Mockingbird. It did make me laugh in spots and did keep me interested all the way to the end. I would also give this author a try on another book.

Glad to see everyone liked it.
