I liked how this turned out last month, so let's try it again!

It's time to come up with a book you would like to read (and discuss) for March. You can pick any book from any genre (fiction or nonfiction).

So post your recommendations below and maybe a little bit about the book. Preferrably a book that you haven't read (and hopefully no one else has either), although that isn't a requirement. In a few days, I will enter the suggested books into a random drawing, and the three winning books will be put up for the vote.

I think Marsha's reminder of Mary Stewarts book the Crystal Cave would be a good one. It's about Merlin before Arthur and everything is seen from his eyes. Really a great book. It maybe hard to find, either a used bookstore or ebay.

I'd like to recommend "Altar of Eden" by James Rollins.

Bagdad falls, and armed men are seen looting the city zoo. Amid a hail of bullets, a concealed underground lab is ransacked.... and something horrific is set loose upon the world. Seven years later, veterinarian Lorna Polk investagates an abandoned shipwrecked fishing trawler carrying exotic animals, part of a black market smuggling ring. But something is disturbingly wrong with thes beasts..each an unsettling mutation of the natural order, all sharing one uncanny trait, incredidibly heightened intelligence. There is more...

Georgia Bottoms, by Mark Childress

Georgia Bottoms is known in her small community of Six Points, Alabama, as a beautiful, well-to-do, and devoutly Baptist Southern belle.

Nobody realizes that the family fortune has long since disappeared, and a determinedly single woman like Georgia needs an alternative, and discreet, means of income. In Georgia's case it is six well-heeled lovers-one for each day of the week, with Mondays off-none of whom knows about the others.

But when the married preacher who has been coming to call (Saturdays) decides to confess their affair in front of the whole congregation, Georgia must take drastic measures to stop him. In GEORGIA BOTTOMS, Mark Childress proves once again his unmistakable skill for combining the hilarious and the absurd to reveal the inner workings of the rebellious human heart.

The Perks of Being Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky:

Charlie is a freshman.

And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it.

Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But he can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn:

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.(

Another suspense novel written by John Saul, "The Manhatten Hunt Club"

Jeff Converse has suddenly been shattered by a bad turn of events. Falsely convicted of a brutal crime. Jeff sees his life vanishing before his eyes. But someone has other plans for Jeff, in a far deadlier place than any penitentiary. He finds himself beneath the teeming streets of Manhattan, in a hidden landscape of twisting tunnels and forgotten subterranean chambers. Here, an invisible poulation of the homeless, the desperate, and the mad has carved out its own shadow society. But they are not alone. The pitch-dark tunnels and abadoned subway stations are haunted by the unmistakable sounds of predators in search of game. Someone has made this forsaken civilization beneath the city a private killing ground...and the hunt is on. Trapped in a treacherous underground maze, cut off at every turn by ragged gangs of sinister gamekeepers and stalked relentlessly by unseen hunters, Jeff faces overwhelming odds in the race to reach salvation and elude capture. With no weapons but his wits, and an unimaginable threat lurking around every corner, Jeff must somehow move Heaven and Earth to escape from a living heck.

I will be getting to the poll soon. I've been having eye issues and my doctor told me not to strain my eyes on the computer or my phone (reading included). I am still here floating around occasionally, just not as often as I should. I promise I haven'& forgotten.

Thank you. I have had major inflammaton in my right eye for the past month (had a fight with a snowflake and I lost), and have now seen four doctors - urgent care, primary, optomitist, and optimologist. I'm hoping that the eyedrops I was given today will work (fourth kind), because my red eye is beyond embarrassing. As if my self confidence isn't bad enough as it is, now I pretty much refuse to make eye contact with anyone.
