Do you like to loan your books out to other people, or are you stingy? Lol. A few months ago, I loaned my friend 8 of my books. She is a constant reader, so I figured I'd have them back in no time. Wrong! Apparently she set them aside until there comes a time when she feels like she wants to read them. I'm beginning to have anxiety attacks thinking about my poor lonely books just sitting there. Lol. Truthfully I'm the total opposite. On the rare occassion where I do borrow a book from someone, I read it as quickly as I can so that I can give it back to them. So what is your book policy?

I have bookplates in all of my books and a file system listing what I've loaned to whom and when. I once lent a paperback to a friend; after I knew he had finished it I asked for it back, and he *informed* me that paperbacks are meant to be passed along to others, so he had given it away. He was never again allowed to touch any of my books, and I set up my card system to make it clear that I expect my books to be returned, including paperbacks.

Stingy! I don't like when I don't get my books back and I'm too polite to be like "uh its been months can I have my books back now" lol

I used to be nice and share, but after lending books to a friend and never getting them back, no more. I KNOW she still has them, I saw them on her shelf!!

After reading what you guys posted, I think I'll ask her if she's read them. Maybe if I bring them up, she'll get on it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes to keep hold of my precious books.

YOU don't know how much I wish I could. I've got my sharable audio books ear tagged already. I wish that Audible would let me share them all, like I could with a print version. I have only ever re-read ONE book, so I would not mind a bit permanently passing along the books I have enjoyed.

You can always post about them in the 'Book Exchange' pinned on top. I'm sure there are others who listen to Audio. I'm trying to spread the word about this forum because a lot of peope don't know it exists. Maybe if more people start joining discussions here, there will be some Audio listeners who would be interested in what you have.

The problem is that I don't think you can pass along a copy of an audiobook from Audible. I love the service, but would also love to share the books

Ah, I see. I forgot that Audio can be on different things now. I still think of it as CDs and cassettes. Lol. Technology is wonderful, isnt it?

I do share my physical books. I give them to friends and family not expecting to ever get them back. In fact, I am surprised when they do come back and many are returned to me.

There are certain types of books that I prefer to buy physical copies of instead of the kindle format, so I am always buying and giving...and sometimes even selling.

It depends on the book and the person.

I do loan to my sister, my mom and one good friend even my "special" books, because I know they will eventually get them back to me. There are some books I don't mind loaning and not getting back, so I would share them more freely. Seeing as I have 3 stacks of books to read that I either bought or borrowed, I am not anxious to get mine back from anyone when I loan them.

I guess I subscribe to the theory, whoever dies with the most books wins, LOL. Even if I never re-read them, I still want them on my shelves. As I've mentioned, my dream house would have floor-to-ceiling books in every room! I admit, I'm not a well woman...

OMG Susanne, your comment made me laugh out loud right here in Walmart! I feel the exact same way. I think I have OCD when it comes to collecting books because even if I haven't read all of the ones I have, I still continue to buy more (I bought a box of 70 for $18 on Ebay last Friday. :-} ). I admit it, I'm a book hoarder. The only books I ever get rid of are ones I know with 100% certainty I will never read, and the repeats of what I already have. I just can't imagine parting with my dear friends.

Some may hoard bars of gold boullion, but my books are my wealth, and like you said, my friends. Don't laugh, but I actually worry about what happens to my library when I die -- can I will them to you, KD?

I used to collect hardback books, but............. realizing that I rarely (if ever) refer back to or re-read ones I've already read, I gave that up a few years ago. I kept some reference books (put them in the attic) and ones by my favorite author, but divested myself of all the rest. I have not missed them yet, and hope some others have enjoyed what I let go. I actually put some big display aquariums where the bookcases used to be

I would be more then willing to take them.

Seriously, I dream of having a collection like yours. I went in my room to my bookshelf last night, which is 7 feet tall but maybe 3 feet wide (three books deep on some shelves). I have such a variety ranging from childrens books and classics to Horror, and everything inbetween. I just never know what I'll be in the mood for, so I have some of everything. One of my favorite things to do is to go in and re-organize them. Lol

Jill, you are a braver (and saner) person than I!

Sara, I'm not sure that's the case! I it's just that we got another hobby and needed more space... made me consider how often over the past 20+ years I ever really re-opened a book I had already read

Some books I pass on so someone else can enjoy, but gifts from friends do not go anywhere. I have already told my oldest daughter that my book collection goes to her as she is the other reader in the family. She was eyeing my books the last time she was up so that made her very happy. I usually just buy hardcovers but I'm going to start on paperbacks because they take up less room and will give me more space.

I do loan out my books very selectively. I'm actually enjoying sharing some of my books with a grandson right now. He's at a good age to enjoy a lot of my books and it's fun to introduce him to those authors--the ones he'll never see now in a school or public library or available on Kindle.
