Never assume a horse (if you are wanting to participate) has been sustained or is eligible for a Futurity...I highly recommend checking out the horse's eligibility with the registry before purchasing the horse. If the horse has not been sustained but is eligible, it costs double for the years past.

Just a heads up...for those who didn't know.

I didn't know you could post-sustain a horse. I thought if the deadline passed, it was done.

I thought in AMHR, only the Super G could be post-entered, at double the cost, but not the regular futurity.

At least the AMHR Futurity is inexpensive. Super G is not cheap, but the regular futurity is.

When buying a horse, it is important to get all paperwork (or view copies of before purchasing). I have file folders of all of my horses' paperwork.

I would be interested in this info of post entering them as well. We bought a horse that was shown in the AMHR futurity as a weanling, then sold. The new owners didn't sustain him the following year. We then bought him that fall and I called AMHR right away to see if he was still able to be in the futurity. The answer I got was NO. Once they have missed one of the deadlines they are done. There is no way to get them back into the program.

Yeah I would be interested as well on who told you that, as I always assumed it was just for the Super G. Altho I'm still never clear on the Futurity stuff. This will be our first year on really going into it and show with the 3 year old mare. Also if I can ask I know in the Super G you have to pick halter or driving in the regular futurity you can show them in all 3 events right?

Yes, you are correct. It is only for the Super G. I am so new to the Futurity part of showing...and the paperwork is not very clear.

Jet WAS in the 2009 AMHR Futurity and needs to be SUSTAINED in 2010 as a three year old if you are going to show him in the 2010 Regular Futurity at the Nationals.

Jet was actually placed 11th on the card shown for the on-line show results for his Futurity class, and if someone was not sustained in his class that placed he would have moved up to 10th place afterall.

The Futurity in question IS the Super G Futurity.

Jet IS ELIGABLE for the Super G for 2010. There was a miss understanding about the Super G fee's and not knowing that ....having the double the fee's if you waited until being a 3 year old to enter the Super G.

Jet was gelded on April 13, 2009 which was past the deadline of April 1st, 2009 ...at that time for being in the Super G program, so he would have had to be brought into the Super G program as being eligable in 2010.

We we were told last year when I called the office that you could pay the $100.00, but apparently that was just for sustaining him for that particular year if he would have made the deadline. I did not know back in 2009 when I called that the apparent fee's that were going to be $350.00 instead of $100.00 until yesterday afternoon after me calling the office to clarify with Joe on the phone.. which $350.00 is that amount if you wait till they are three years old to put them in the Super G. I had no idea that it would be that much of an amount, we were originally told $100.

When I spoke to Joe yesterday about this and he did mention that he should have made things clearer about the program on how the fee's work and perhaps had clarified it better thru the years from the start of nominations.

It was a honest mistake and a learning experience of the Super G fee's and program. I have had other people that I know claim that they also all thought the same as myself, pay the $100.00 at the end, now I know the details after being explained better over the phone.

This program is very confusing compared to the regular Futurity program that they have.

Everyone can make mistakes and nobody IS PERFECT and there are others beside me and including yourself that didn't understand the paperwork formalities as well for this program ! Bottom line !

I had a gelding (Buck Ons Jedi Knight Star) that I entered in the Super G. I entered him as a weanling, so I never had to pay double the fees. However, it is a little nerve-wracking to be paying so much every year and then hoping that by the time the horse is three, you will actually make it to Nationals that year.

It is extremely cost-prohibitive to post-enter your gelding at the last year, and you probably would not break even.

Perhaps to make it easier for the Super G, just the year of the gelding's three-year-old year you just pay $300 or whatever to enter them in the program that spring?

I went to the just issued Journal and picked out a horse that our friend showed that was in both regular Futurity and Super G and did roadster, halter in the Regular one and in the Super G did halter not driving and placed in all three Futurities with coming home with roughly $1800.00.

I always wondered why there was not very many people entered in the Super G program at Nationals, now I know why .....there is only 3 to 5 per class if you are lucky.

The Super G Futurity fee's are very confusing for sure for each year and the whole layout of the Super G compatred to the regular Futurity. So if you want to wait and put a horse in at the end of the Super G, you have to pay the larger amount.
