My daughter is turning 5 and we're having a horse themed "mare and foal" birthday party for her. I will have a lot of people between the kids and their parents so I need lots of "fun foods". I'm looking for creative, easy to eat snack ideas with the horse theme in mind. I have activities planned, however if you have any great ideas along those lines I'd love to hear them too.

Thanks,

If you do a search on the computer for a snack called Puppy Chow you will find several recipes made from different cerals. It is basicly ceral coated in chocolate, so good. I am sure that some cerals will make it looks like horse grain instead of puppy chow.

well nothing like stating the obvious: CARROTS :bgrin APPLES :bgrin maybe BRAN MUFFINS??? :bgrin

how about granola bars? seriously, i am trying to think what our horses like... their favorite "people foods" are animal crackers and these cookies i get at the dollar store, they are like Fig Newtons but have APPLE filling instead...

(edited for the tenth time, sorry i tried to fix this earlier today and the internet kept shutting it down!!! i did not mean to sound so sarcastic as my initial post... that's one problem with typing, you can't hear the tone of voice!)

One good one that kids love is dirt pudding (made with oreos) served up in flower pots and gummy worms stuck throughout. Great gross out factor, and dirt pudding is fabulous.

Oh, I love dirtcake! It's wonderful, especially when it comes in a clay pot with a shovel..

(you could be reeeeealy gross and make muck cake, lol!)

Um, apples and carrots, of course, and there are horse treats that people can eat.

and they could use marshmellos and make their own ponies! you could use peanut butter to make them stick, and use different size marshmellos and such.

and...um...I'd have to think about it.

that's a cute cake!

Oh, and activity wise, they could paint horseshoes, or paint a real horse if you have a gentle enough one available.

you could cut cookies into horseshoe shapes, or even apple slices into a horseshoe.

OATmeal cookies! If you have horse themed cookie cutters, make sandwiches and then cut out the shapes. This may be a little gross, but how about some mini chocolate muffins ( to look like "meadow muffins")?

Gingerbread horses either pre-decorated or have a table that they can decorate their own. Can also make a gingerbread stable instead of a gingerbread house.

We've done the "dirt pudding" thing with the gummy worms, we went all out and bought new flower pots and decorated them with each child's name and of course, horses and horse themes.

You can also use new fishbowls and make blue jelly and put gummy fish in it before it hardens or thickens, whatever you call it when it becomes jello.

The puppy chow recipe tastes great, though in my opinion it looks like mini size horse poop anyway so just re-name it if you have kids that like the gross out factor. They can tell everybody they came to your party and ate horse poop.

Ants on a log? Not a horse theme unless you find some creative way to tie it in......my kids don't like it but they have friends that really do. Celery sticks with peanut butter smeared on them and raisins stuck all over.
