We've been having political "debates" on LB for weeks now. By now we know where most people who have participated stand on things. Those of you who support Obama know that those of us who don't feel that there are still a lot of unanswered questions. If anyone knows those answers I think it would be a good thing to provide them for the rest of us. Obviously I'm talking about reasonably proveable information that comes from a reasonably reliable source. What I'm NOT talking about is everyone's personal opinion. Heaven knows we've all seen enough of that to last a lifetime. Do you have facts that answer our unanswered questions? If so please post them. I, for one, would welcome them.

I don't think people know the answers and this is what bothers me about Obama. But the other day when the thread about McCain was posted and these were facts, all you had to do was look them up to see they were true and they weren't good, he's just a creap. I'd rather face the unknown then the McCain known, does this make sense? McCain will never turn our country around, he doesn't have a clue. So we place our hope in Obama.

Thats why I said the other day, the candidates should all be thrown back and let us start over. I believe I said Obama, to many unanswered questions, Biden is an idiot, McCain is on the brink of senility and I think his voting record sucks, and Palin is an airhead. Now this is just my opinion. My "candidate hopeful" never made it so now I have to go with the lesser of the evils. No, I can't answer the unanswered questions, so I have to work with what we got.

OH NO, I reread and I guess you said NO OPINIONS, now I supposed I'll be bashed, sorry, I shouldn't have answered. I was just trying to explain. again, sorry.

How about, you provide a few specific questions first?

Huh?? We HAVE been asking questions for weeks on end. Can't seem to get any answers except. That's not true. It's all biased information.

Rather than continue to string this out, post the questions so I can try to help. Thank you.

triedandtrue since you're relatively new to the political discussions we've been having I assume that maybe you haven't seen the dozens of questions that have been posed on several of the previous threads. Since they're already here on the forum I didn't really see any reason to repeat them again. While I appreciate your offer to help, you can find our questions / issues that haven't been settled to our satisfaction (although there are some who say we will never be satisfied) on many of the threads that have been posted over the last several weeks.

Marnie - no bashing from me. I don't think it's my place to bash someone just because their opinion is different than mine. I said "no opinions" simply because I think by now we all know one another's opinion and I think it's when opinions get involved that these threads turn into something less than informative.

So let me get this straight. It was important enough to make an entirely new thread about your unaswered questions but its not important enough to actually post a few?

Right. Gotcha.

While I was out feeding my animals, it did dawn on me, all I ever hear is "unanswered questions" , I have seen lists but don't recall. So if you know what they are, why don't you list just a few and we can see if we do know the answers, this seems fair, doesn't it?

I don't think people know the answers and this is what bothers me about Obama.
Marnie I agree with your statement. I was attempting to start a thread that wouldn't include bashing, finger pointing, making fun of one another, etc but would provide factual information. My thought about doing this was that it would give Obama supporters a chance to show us Obama-doubters that there was more information out there that we should be aware of.

It's been on long enough that I think if anyone of us who has been discussing these issues for weeks (if they were interested in this type of thread) would have responded by now. Evidently not. Guess I just wasted an LB thread by trying to reach across the aisle. I'm sorry I tried.

I'm posting here, honestly wanting to know some questions. Everyone can take the time to post 2 paragraphs of ranting about this, but no one can post a couple questions? Was this a joke thread and I just wasn't aware of it?

Ok, now I see this was just another thread bating for a bashing, You can't even list a few questions, can anyone? Come on now, you people smarter than me, list a few. I can't see how the person who started this thread doesn't have a few in mind but won't list them, that's just odd, refusing to list any, you obviously don't know any either.

Let me try.

1. Are all the allegations of Obamas connection to the Islamic world true and if so is it something to be worried about?

2. Does anyone have information regarding Obama's experience in foreign affairs?

3. Does Obama favor gun control and if so to what extreme?

4. What exactly will Obama do to help our ailing economy?

5. Where did Obama get the money to support this very expensive campaign?

6.As Obama supporters do you believe his campaign promises and if so why?

7. Is your choice for president whomever that is because of partisan politics or because you are choosing the lesser of two evils as many have stated? What are your REASONS for voting the way you are going to vote?

8. "This one for both sides do you think you can support the candidate who is elected even if it isnt your choice ?

9. HOw do you turn a blind eye when someone has been proven to be a liar or does that value not matter anymore.?

10. Do you think welfare is the way to run this country and if so why or why not?

There are 10 of the questions that come to mind right off the top. Anyone feel free to add to them.

Very good questions Nita. Now please lets hear some answers and Please let's not bash. Just honest answers and not to just pull up a website as proof. Your ANSWER also. Okay? We can do it. I promise not to bash anyone even if I don't find the answer satisfactory. Okay Go.

I've quit posting on the more hotly debated threads. It's just not worth the frustration

I do very much appreciate your interest in the facts though, I think a lot of us are just ready to agree to disagree and move on through this week

These are so stupid, not worth trying to get the answers into thick skulls anymore. Obama never once said he'll help welfare cases and on and on but believe what you want, I don't care anymore. Some of these have been answered and defended, over and over, this is just another ignorant fighting thread. Have at it, I'm gone.

Golly so much for thinking we might have a thread with no bashing.... silly me.

I wasn't going to post the questions because I can only post those things that concern ME. But here are a couple to start with. Hopefully other people will list their questions/doubts/concerns and we can get everything in one place rather than scattered through dozens of different threads. I know that TAG has listed some sites that answered someone's question about Harvard.

#1 - What is it about Obama's background/experience that make you feel that he's the best person for the job?

#2 - Do you feel that his past associations raise the question of sound judgement? If not, why not? (Please note that I'm not inferring that he's a terrorist.)

#3 - How did he progress from a middle class working man (although as an attorney perhaps you don't consider him "middle class") to one who could afford a house that cost in excess of a million and a half dollars before he was 40 years old?

#4 - Where did the obscene amount of money he's spending on his campaign come from?

#5 - How do you explain his slip regarding his religion during his interview with Stephanapolus (sp)?

#6 - Do you feel that his 20 year association with a spiritual advisor who preaches racial hatred, says that America invented AIDS to rid the country of blacks and says things like "God dam America" is not something you should be concerned about? If not, why not?

#7 - Do you feel that disassociating himself with the Rev. Wright only after their relationship became a political issue is not a concern? If not, why not?

#8 - How do you justify his association with an unrepentant terrorist and a Chicago slum lord?

#9 - Do you condone his party's invasion into the private life of Joe the Plumber? If so, why is it OK?

#10 - How do you explain his association and monetary donations to ACORN?

#11 - Is it a concern to you that he doesn't show the customary respect to the American flag? If not, why not?

#12 - Does it not concern you that he makes comments like "As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides"? As President of the United States wouldn't you want/expect him to be on America's "side"?

There are a few of my personal concerns to start with.

C'mon Marnie - reach across the aisle with us. Let's get everything in one spot. I'm seriously interested in answers to these questions and I think others are too.

Thanks for your list backwoodsnanny.

Let me try.
1. Are all the allegations of Obamas connection to the Islamic world true and if so is it something to be worried about?

They've been debunked multiple times by credible sources. People like to assume because his name is not Joe Smith, that he must have connections to the Islamic world. My own boyfriend was born in Saudi Arabia and lived there for the first years of his life, effectively giving him far more time in the middle east than Obama, and yet, because his name doesn't sound middle eastern, or like that of an infamous terrorist, no one questions his religious beliefs.

I could post multiple sources, but the best is still snopes response, as they've aggregated all of the sources together.

2. Does anyone have information regarding Obama's experience in foreign affairs?

There aren't many senators at all who can claim foreign affair experience. Even sitting on the committees in Congress, as both McCain and Obama have done, doesn't give you the ability to prepare for some things you'll encounter in office as President. But his plans for foreign policy are readily available on his website. Biden, however, has served as Chairmen of Foreign Affairs in the Senate for many years, effectively placing him above the curve. I really think anyone interested in policies should look at both candidates websites. Its kind of an extreme to attempt that on a forum.

3. Does Obama favor gun control and if so to what extreme?

A quick rundown:

* Ok for states & cities to determine local gun laws. (Apr 2008)

* FactCheck: Yes, Obama endorsed Illinois handgun ban. (Apr 2008)

* Respect 2nd Amendment, but local gun bans ok. (Feb 2008)

* Provide some common-sense enforcement on gun licensing. (Jan 2008)

* 2000: cosponsored bill to limit purchases to 1 gun per month. (Oct 2007)

* Concealed carry OK for retired police officers. (Aug 2007)

* Stop unscrupulous gun dealers dumping guns in cities. (Jul 2007)

* Keep guns out of inner cities--but also problem of morality. (Oct 2006)

* Bush erred in failing to renew assault weapons ban. (Oct 2004)

* Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions. (Jul 1998)

* Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005)

Its more or less an issue he leaves to municipalities, and states. He believes in a 2nd amendment with restrictions on semi automatics, closer gun dealer checks, and general common sense about guns.

4. What exactly will Obama do to help our ailing economy?

One important thing I dont think people understand about his tax plan is that it only taxes amounts over 250,000 dollars. I understand that there are several people in the miniature horse world who are affronted, but the thing is, the poor have been overly taxed for the last 8 years. That someone who makes enough to live comfortably is taxed more than someone skirting the poverty line is ridiculous.

A big thing is eliminating capital gains taxes for small businesses - which would also apply to real estate. The capital gains tax, as any real estate agent can tell you, is a huge problem when it comes to people selling their homes that aren't immediately buying another, and can cause people to lower the price of their homes in an effort to skirt it. Lowering house prices is not what the economy needs. In addition to helping real estate, it helps all small businesses, who are already taxed both more than individuals and corporations. Being self employed is costly.

5. Where did Obama get the money to support this very expensive campaign?

Donations. Lots and lots of Donations. All of which are recorded. He is also reaping the gains of several years of book deals. His public donations have set monthly and yearly records repeatedly, and the average donation was only something like 20 bucks. You can of course, research his donations here:

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib....p;cid=N00009638

http://www.fec.gov/DisclosureSearch/mapApp...nd_id=P80003338

I think it's especially noteable that only 8% came from PACs, which is fairly astounding in a public election.

6.As Obama supporters do you believe his campaign promises and if so why?

For my part, he's been my senator from Illinois since before I could vote. I've been following his political history for 13 years now. I believe him because I've had no reason in those 13 years to be turned off of him in disgust, and because his beliefs closely mirror mine.

This isn't something any republican is ever going to be able to get. Democrats and others believe in Obama for the same reasons you may beleive in McCain. Or Paul. Or Huckabee. There is no source that is going to sway you to believe him if you simple don't.

7. Is your choice for president whomever that is because of partisan politics or because you are choosing the lesser of two evils as many have stated? What are your REASONS for voting the way you are going to vote?

I'm voting for him because:

-He was the only state senator in Illinois to not act like Chicago was the only important part of the state. My college would have had its funding cut in half in the late 90s if Obama hadn't help junior senators in the lower half of the state pass an education bill.

-I agree on a majority of his policies, both national, local, and foreign.

-Largest, because I believe he will work as a representative of the people, and not the corporations.

Of course it's more involved than that, but I have no intention of this turning into a squabble about whether you agree with his policies towards Israel or not. I could go point by point on his policies for days. This isn't the place for it.

8. "This one for both sides do you think you can support the candidate who is elected even if it isnt your choice?

I cant, no. My home, car, wallet, and job cant take the hit of an economy built for people with 20 million dollar golden parachutes. I supported Bush through 2004, and couldn't take it any more.

9. HOw do you turn a blind eye when someone has been proven to be a liar or does that value not matter anymore.?

All politicians are liars. If you're going to only vote for honest people, then I suppose you aren't voting anymore, are you? I don't mean for that to come out offensive, but I have never, ever, known of a politician who hasn't broken promises, or lied. I'm not saying its a value that doesn't matter, but given that every single one of the four people up for election (both P and VP) have been caught in lies, I think its a moot point.

10. Do you think welfare is the way to run this country and if so why or why not?

Welfare doesn't run this country. No one complained about handouts when Bush's economy was handing us 600$ checks, but suddenly, people are griping about handouts. Face it: more and more people are slipping into poverty every day in this nation, and welfare is a necessary component of any government. Welfare is not going to disappear if McCain becomes president.

There are 10 of the questions that come to mind right off the top. Anyone feel free to add to them.
Theres my responses. Most of these were opinion questions, so I have no doubt I'll be bashed for them. But I will always provide sources for fact checking when available.

These are so stupid, not worth trying to get the answers into thick skulls anymore. Obama never once said he'll help welfare cases and on and on but believe what you want, I don't care anymore. Marnie all you have ever done in these threads is cry foul and throw a fit. Like above, "These are so stupid, not worth trying to get the answers into thick skulls anymore...."

Thank God my head is thick. At least I can tell when someone is answering a question and when someone is not.
