Someone on the news said this morning that there's a lot of real estate on the market right now but that he hoped that the White House could't be bought.

I went up to get the mail this morning (hadn't been up to get it for 3 days) and there were 3 Obama flyers there. An average of 1 a day in my mailbox. (This is totally off topic but then I thought about the fact that there must be literally zillions of additional pieces of mail going to the landfills.)

When you consider the expense of printing and distribution at that volumn, the fact that he has 3 to 4 times the number of political offices as McCain, the "usual" amounts that are spent, and the cost of last night's infomercial, it's mind boggling. Is it just me or do you agree that he appears to think the way to the White House is to spend, spend, spend.

And before you go there.......yes I DO know that he's spending political contributions. But I think that those contributors would have been perfectly understanding (and possibly even admire him) if he told them that he had received much more than he needed, that he thought (especially due to the economic crisis) that there should be a reasonable limit to what he was spending and that he was donating the excess contributions to ..........

I dunno he may be right that may be the way to get there. The whole thing just seems so......obscene.

I guess one way to look at is he's sharing the wealth.

Nobody thought it was obscene when their candidate was winning. Presidential races have always been about money spending, and the only side that attacks the issue is the side thats losing (McCain) or the ones who are under fire for improperly managing their money (Hilary Clinton).

I guess since McCain didnt raise as much, he doesn't need to tell anyone to stop donating, right?

I agree that its obscene what is spent - I agree wholeheartedly on that. But to hit only one side when both parties have gathered millions and spent millions - is ridiculous.

Last time I checked Obama has raised and spent DOUBLE what McCain had. And I've been saying for weeks that both parties have wasted more than enough money, that could go to far better causes.

Are both candidates spending insane amounts of money? Yes. However, those saying that the candidates should use that money to give to the poor/government/etc might want to rethink that.

The way I understand campaign funding is: that money is given to you for a purpose. Consider it a campaign funding gift card. You can spend it on campaign funding. It's like getting a gift card for Macy's. You can't say 'this is way more money than I need for Macy's. Hey, why don't I use this card over at Home Depot?'

And for those of you concerned over Sen. McCain not having enough funding, he's got a perfectly good loophole HE designed that he can use, and has been using. My dad's been telling me about fliers he's been delivering for the McCain campaign reminding donors of this loophole. Basically you can donate however much you want, as often as you want to a party's national committee, but once that party has the money, they can use it as they see fit. That can be for supporting their state campaigns...or a presidential campaign.

"But has Obama been too successful? In July, a few weeks before the Democratic National Convention, Obama and his handlers formed joint fund-raising committees through a loophole (ironically created by the McCain-Feingold Act) that allows individual donors to write checks far surpassing federal limits of $2,300 — if the money was shared between a candidate and his party’s national and state committees. As a result of the loophole, “[The party committees] are avenues for individuals and others to legally donate tens of thousands of dollars,” says Boyle of Common Cause. John McCain created a similar committee, using the very loophole he had authored.

Individual donors promptly began writing checks of $25,000 or more to Obama’s and McCain’s committees. Even as the world of high finance began its stunning Wall Street meltdown, the biggest check-writers to both men were executives from securities and investment companies, according to The New York Times. The entertainment industry was also a top contributor, vastly preferring Obama."

Can the White House be bought? Yeah, it was in '00 and '04. You pay the note everytime you buy gas/diesel. While the CEOs give themselves HUGE bonuses every year.

There is every second business right now asking for handouts..I understand that Exxon made huge profits and I am NO fan of paying mega bux for gas..But maybe you are aware that they paid over 30 BILLION TAXES..just in the last quater..this is a HUGE company..makes Huge profits Has HUGE risks and Huge profits..they pay more in percent than any other big company..

I hardly said McCain didn't have enough money and anyone who's paid the least bit of attention to anything about this election knows that Obama's contributions have been much larger. That's great for him and for his supporters!! I'm sure you'll both willingly admit that it was only able to happen because of his lies.

Using a Macy's card at Home Depot is a totally rediculous comparison. Using that credit card at Macys for it's full amount and taking part of it to a homeless shelter or standing on the street and handing it out to people who obviously could use the things it bought is much closer to my example.

It appears that you both might think that he can buy his way into a new residence since neither of you bothered to addressed the question. You did the normal thing and attacked the person who asked a question you took exception to. I certainly hope you're both honest enough to recognize that you've done what those of us on the other "side" have been accused of over and over.

Oh by the way - I've gotten 2 calls from the Obama campaign offices in the past 2 hours. More of Obama's millions at work.

Considering they are making record profits I would assume they would pay record taxes. I wish they had to pay more in taxes , maybe it would keep their greed down and maybe they would stop raping the economy. Oh wait, they are stopping, they may be loosing their foothold in Washington. Or should I say their wing of the White House.

I dont understand which part. Are you wondering why they pay high taxes or if they didnt actually buy Bush into the White House? I am not going on fact per se, but preponderance of evidence/info. If they didnt buy his way in, it sure is a whole lot of things that just happen to all fall into place.

Yeah..you know its the conspiricy..when Republicans are in charge the gas prices go up...right??
