Lee brought back lots of candle making stuff when he visited his mother in Georgia. This was Lee's brothers hobby before he died a few years back. I thought I would experiment with it a bit this winter........................................ Anyone here make or have any neat or unusual thoughts on candle making?

Marty did last year- don't know whether she still does but she could give advice, I bet.

I've done a few. You can get a O.J. carton, fill it with ice and poor wax over the ice makes neat design. Also take wet sand and form it pour wax in it. Good Luck, Kathy

I never made candles but I seem to remember something about you can catch the wax on fire if you melt it in a microwave??????? Not sure.

Two things I learned from my aunt some years ago is not to microwave wax (not sure why--just can't) and never pour hot wax down the drain. That sounds like common sense, but apparently not to her. What a mess getting the sink trap cleaned out.

Good luck and have fun.

I've been doing it for years. Being a chandler has been a kinda dream for me and I've dabbled with it for years. Never could really make the same candle twice with the same exact results. Trial and error.

I use a thingy, like a crock pot thingy to melt my wax in. That's the first thing.

Well, no it's not, the first thing is you have to know what kind EXACTLY of wax you have there, and then know what kind of wicks you have too. The right wicks for the right kind of wax and container is very important. That's important to know so you don't blow up your kitchen. Trust me on that. That's why I went to the crock potting thingy instead of the stove. KABOOMY is normal around here when I go to make candles. I love mixing scents, and adding color. I gave up years ago following amounts and just experiement a whole lot to the family's horror. I do tend to lean towards soy wax because I like the melting pool from it, just seems easier to work with for me, but I really just flip flop back and forth.

The name of the thing I melt my wax in is a Presto from Walmart. It's black. Then when you are done using the wax, you just leave it sit in there for the next time.

OH, for heaven's sakes don't give any to anyone either, until atleast you know you have a handle on it. Putting a flame in someone else's home is dangerous.

There are some message boards on the net for newbies into candle making but so far, I haven't found one that is very cordial to newbies.

I've always been interested in making candle's. I've done it at Cedar Point every time i go there.

I love it ..i just dont trust myself with fire.
