Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 or more for 411 / information calls when they don't have to.

When you need to use the 411 / information option, simply dial

1 800 FREE-411

or 1 800 373 3411 without incurring a charge at all except for the

minutes required to make the call.

This is information people don't mind receiving - Pass it on.

What Phone Numbers Can I Register?10. Can I register my cell phone on the National Do Not Call Registry?

Yes, you may place your personal cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. The registry has accepted cell phone numbers since it opened for registrations in June 2003. There is no deadline to register a home or cell phone number on the Registry.

You may have received an email telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database; however, that is not the case. FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers don’t call consumers on their cell phones without their consent.

My daughter tried the FREE 411 number, and got a recording saying it was not a working number.

We had an information call on our latest phone bill that my husband called and protested. It was over $5 for an info call!! Their explanation - someone had called an 800 number that was not in service, and it automatically switched them over to an info service of some kind....and a charge that ended up being about $7 with taxes, etc. Sounds like a scam to me. Verizon will take it off the bill I think after we fill out a request.
