DON'T LAUGH! PLEASE!

Ok, here's what I have so far:

A prancing horse sculpture made of chicken wire.

It's about 13 + hands high. Wasn't supposed to be more than

a miniature, but let's just say it got away from me ok?

If I can't fix the legs better, then it's going to end up being a rearing horse.

: Oh and it's a gelding too.

Anyhow, it's for my outside yard art. Like I need more crap in the yard :new_shocked: :new_shocked:

So, now I need something to stuff inside the chicken wire, which is hollow.

It has to be something durable, because the end result is it will be living outside.

When I used to make these things really small for inside, I always just used newspaper dipped in a paste of water and flour and poke it through the wire holes, but that is not going to work in this one. I need something else.

Then I will find something else for the outside that will have to be a weather resistant material also.

No pictures until it's done which will be a while. Right now it's got colic laying on his side........

plastic grocery bags?? What job does the stuffing need to perform? Hold the sides out or make it so it won't be a see through? What exactly is the function of the stuffing?

What's the matter Sheryl, you dont' like your Christmas present? It's homemade!!!!!!!!!

Karla! How can I fill it with pebbles .....it's CHICKEN WIRE THEY WILL FALL OUT!!!!!!!

You guys are sucky tonite.

OK I need the stuffing to hold the shape of the insides of the chicken wire sp it will not loose it's shape and collapse.

Picture a piece of chicken wire that it just pulled up and wired together on the ends. The middle is a hollow hole. Now I need to poke stuff inside all those millions of holes so the wire will not smash and go flat.

Stuff all of your hay strings into the holes.

: I'm crafty but no help here - let us know if you come up with something.

How about that expanding outdoor foam? Of course it may be too big, and would take too many cans, but, ya know, without pics.....Ahem....

Don't stuff it. Find the right kind of plant/ vine. what ever to grow into over and around it. That way you will have a living horse. There are some ever green type vine/ bushes that would work well. You just need to train and trim them.

Marty, I like the vine idea too!

What about aluminum foil stuffed in there?

I admire your creative use of chicken wire, I myself have used chicken wire to make a manatee............

what about those syrofoam peanuts? They would hold the wire and be light weight.

(if you use my idea do I get to see pics early??)

Marty,

I think you should try planting IVY or something and train it climbing the horse sculpture, like the onesI saw in Disney world once. Can't remember what those living sculptures are called.

That would be so cool!!!

Love ya!

Robin

Put the same stuffing inside -- then wrap the whole thing up in aluminum foil????? really really really really well?

What about stuffing it with old clothes? Sounds tacky, i know. Okay, wouldnt be the prettiest thing on the planet to use BUT i bet it would work. Wouldnt be extremely heavy but also wouldnt be light. Have a multi colored horse

. It would atleast keep it from smashing while you work on it.

That sounds so neat, i want one now. Marty your going to have to tell me how your doing this, i have way to much freetime and that sounds fun!!

Peat moss Marty - used in garden topiaries all the time - then you can add moss or other foliage that can be trimmed to create the look you want. A friend of mine has a pair of prancing minis in her front drive - they are really cute - boy am I jealous -- I would love to have the time (and talent) to do something like you are doing - bet it is going to be beautiful when it is done!

Pix, Pix, Pix ! ! !

BIG pieces of wood mulch - more natural look. Go to the electric company & get a load of chopped up tree limbs. Replace as needed............................OR use the hay string to weave in & out of the holes & this will stabilize it - drop a rock inside for weight....I started weaving a rug mat from hay strings years ago but didn't finish it.

Hey Marty... What about all of those plastic Walmart bags that you have from shopping at your favorite store? They can be stuffed inside the horse tight and would not add much weight. And since those bags are plastic, should last a while. As an extra bonus, it will give you an excuse to go shopping! Hee Hee. Pictures would be nice though!
