I couldn’t believe the price of one book at the college book store. It was $97.00 for one book!!

I’m 50 years old and never stepped foot on a college up until this week and I was just floored by the price of books.

I’m taking an on line course from the college called keyboarding and document processing.

After I am done with this I would like to take a course on medical terminology and then if I can handle that I want to take a course on medical transcribing.

How do kids pay for college :new_shocked:

Be sure to let me know when you find out the answer to that one!

Good luck with your courses, BTW. I do hope you enjoy yourself.

It's expensive, but then, college textbooks always have been...I'm surprised it's not more.

To be honest, I'd rather see money spent on education and going to the educators who write them (to the extent the money gets to them and not just the publishers) rather than cars, sports and mindless entertainment, war, and all the other colossal wastes of money in our society.

[SIZE=18pt]Not that this is what you're looking for, but I helped my sister buy her college books on ebay, half.com and amazon. They were A LOT cheaper than even buying the used books at the college bookstore. Something to think about to try to save a bit of money!

Hi Jo.

I just had to go buy 4 books for my classes this semester, cost me $364! :new_shocked: And I'm not a kid, I have a husband and family, but I'm paying for school and books with student loans. I couldn't have done it any other way. Most universities have a book buy back program at the end of the semester. You get the most out of them if you sell them back during finals week, but I have ended up keeping most of mine as they are good for reference and usually you only get back half (or less)of what you paid for them, so it's more worth it to me to keep them.

Good luck with your class, you'll do great, I'm sure.

Jodi

:aktion033: First of all good for you! Going to school at your age is so ambitious and impressive. You go girl!

My grand daughter is in pre-med and believe me books are a big part of the college expense. She also goes for all the half price books she can. Some she has to buy new but whatever she can find used saves a lot.

Take the time to get online and search all those resources mentioned in the afore mentioned posts and good luck! Maxine

Well thankfully I can manage college for now. If you are a full time student you dont have to worry about paying loans etc right off hand. And the way the college I go to, the loans you get are used towards your books too so nothing comes out of pocket for me. Except for gas, food etc. On the other hand the college I go to is a bit on the pricey side but I don't care its a rather good school. I will be happy as long as the cost stays at a$285 a credit hour and doesnt go up anymore for a while

They sure are expensive! Doesn't look like things have changed much since I went through. I used to buy everything I could at used prices but some did have to be purchased new. Took me 10 years to pay off those student loans too.

My husband is in the RN program at our local college. I thought books were bad when I went to RN school....ummm......yeah, okay, 26 years ago......but his are outrageous! We've bought some on-line but the publishers sure do make out like bandits on these poor college students.
