Here's one, When I bought her (and didn't know squat about the Champagne Color) she was registered as a dun, as was her dam (who has been proven to be a Champagne as well). DNA color tested for just about everything to prove her Champagness she tested Ee aa nCh nCr Making her a Classic Cream Champagne

She was bred when I bought her to a registered Black stallion (and he looked Jet black) and she produced this. She tested ee aa nCh CrCr so is a Gold Double Cream Champagne or a Cremello Champagne (the first miniature documented this color actually anjd only 1 of I think 4 total horses this color), Not many would pick that up by looking at her, and that made her sire be a smokey black rather than a black.

Don't have a picture on this computer, but my stud's dam was registered as brown, when she was clearly a sliver black.

As the silver color is one of THE unique aspects of miniature horses, it has always seemed odd to me that there is only a listing for silver dapple and that we are forced to mark bay on a clearly silver bay.

I have seen many silver blacks registered as "grey" when they clearly were not.

With genetic testing available and commonly in use, it would seem that the registries could catch up with the times and add a whole group of "silver" colors to the database.

While the registries are height based, in order for breeders to successfully use pedigrees in our breeding program it would sure be nice for the colors to be accurate.

In this age of computers (which really boggles my mind) we face both opportunities and limitations. It is my understanding that the current color code system will not allow for an expansion of color choices and that a new system with more characters (maybe 4 or 5 instead of the current 3) must be developed in order to meet that need.

We all know that BOTH AMHA and AMHR had disappointing experiences with their attempt to adopt a new computer program for their respective studbooks. Maybe something else is in the works and hopefully progress will be made in the future.

Sorry to go "off track" here but I have to comment on that foal picture from DoubleT. Is that your son holding the foal for you? Whoever - that picture is, as they say, priceless. The t-shirt, pacifier and still holding a horse ....really says "I'm a Texan!"

I have a few in my herd. I have a leopard appaloosa stallion who is listed as Grullo with AMHR. I have a silver bay mare who is listed as chestnut with AMHR. I have two black mares who are listed as brown and seal brown with AMHR. I have a silver bay appaloosa who is registered as a bay roan appaloosa with AMHR.

lol Thank you yes that was him and her last summer. He claims her as his horse so he was the handler, lol, he was 2 in that picture. .

Sent back my paperwork for Zona to look it over again.

I am sure they will do the right thing.

Will let you know. Just mailed out yesterday.

Instead of Brown Pinto hope she comes back Buckskin Pinto Appaloosa, being

some breeders would not like appy in their bloodline.

Have not got AMHA papers back yet, put will check my mail again today.

I expect Zona will be very good to work with. I have always found her to be.

I have a silver bay mare registered AMHR, and she is listed as silver bay on her papers. [We thought she was palomino as a baby, and she was registered as such, after testing proved she was silver bay, I sent in a copy of the test results and changed her to silver bay (when I brought her permanent). Guess with the test results it was easier to get them to agree to silver bay.]

For the different colors I know AMHR will allow them, you may have to send in DNA test results to prove it, or like with the Champagnes to get their correct shade identified, send in a copy of the ICHR papers, so I guess you'd need proof soemtimes, lol jsut don't allow them to choose, they stink at it.

Wow Joanne, thanks for sharing that! I have several sabinos, but being that most of mine are red, it hasn't been an issue. I've certainly learned something today.
