I know what you're going through, I've had surgery twice . The only meds that were offered to me were (a) birth control and (b) straight progesterone pills. Neither helped in my case, but the pain IS enough to make you sick to your stomach. They do like to give it time and avoid surgery if possible. Considering your age, I would imagine (though I am NOT a doctor) they will want to wait a while before operating as every operation opens other possibilites, ie: scarring, adhesions, etc... I am not trying to make you afraid of the surgery, if it comes to that, the pain relief is wonderful! But the benefit of surgery has to outweigh the risk, so they like to exhaust all other options first, and I would guess that that is why they are trying meds with you first. I know that this non-invasive approach FEELS invasive when you're waiting through the pain, but it really is better if they can make it work. If you need to talk or have more questions, feel free to pm me. I don't know how much help I'll be but I can certainly understand your pain and frustration. I'm sorry you're having to go through this.

This is something that your mother HAS to know about.

You must take this right to your mother immediately and not wait. She has to know. Please do not hide this kind of thing from your parent's.

If it was my kids that were having bad effects from their medicine, I would want to know about it so that I could call the doctor and tell him. Then he would change it.

Lots of medicines have bad side effects. And how can the doctor change it, if he doesn't know?

You must tell your family about this now ok?

There is nothing to be worried about.

The way to get help is to ask the people that can help you.

Oh my goodness... you are so young to be dealing with this. I agree you need to keep communicating with your mom and your doctor. And maybe consider trying out a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) doctor, if your current one isn't taking your concerns seriously. If the med they put you on is B.C. pill, they made me sick too. I don't take any meds now (other than occasional pain control) for my cysts. Eventually, I'll get the whole mess removed, but you are too young to consider that. I hope this resolves quickly for you.

uck..i can sympathise.. i've had them off and on since i was about 11 years old. they are so painful and really really stink big time! they make me have serious side and back aches. they've never put me on aything fo them. Hope yours clears up and helps you out! what is the name of the meds they haev you one?

I'm assuming these are ovarian cysts?

I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I had my first cyst burst when I was just 17. The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, why I had this sudden, evil killer pain. They figured it was my appendix, or something.

I had another episode in college, but luckily, the doctor in that town was on the ball and diagnosed me right away.

I went on birth control pills to control the cysts. I didn't stay on them long, just until I got married, then I gave them up - I wasn't going to pass up any pregnancy that "accidently" happened!

Well, I probably should have stayed on the pill until we really were ready to conceive. My periods were never regular after I got off the pill and when I missed four periods in a row, I went to see a gynecologist who recommended surgery. I had the surgery (laproscopy to lazer the cysts and a D&C to get rid of some endometriosis, which is often related to PCOS) and six months later, we were pregnant!

I'm lucky that I didn't have to go on hormones to get pregnant. Many women with PCOS do.

However, you're just a youngster, so you're probably not worried about your immediate fertility. You definitely should discuss the benefits of birth control with your doctor AND your parents (so they know you're on them for medical reasons and not social reasons). It may turn out that the pill can easily manage your cysts and keep your ovaries in good shape for when you do want to have kids. Always think about your future, kiddo - you wouldn't want to pass up treatment now that might make having kids in the future a lot easier.

In addition, if you're a fat girl like me, keeping your weight in check will help you manage your cysts. Most women who have or develop cystic ovaries are overweight.

First of all, I think you should get your mom to make an appt. with your doctor, and you can discuss these things with them so she can be part of it and understand.

Is there a hotline with your medication that you can call and ask some questions about how you're feeling, mabye have your mom talk to them, I bet she would take them seriously.

I may be misunderstanding what your'e saying, but it sounds like you're saying your mom is not listening to you and you're feeling badly.

I have no experience with what your'e talking about, my sister had them a few times, and she felt really bad when the cysts would finally rupture. Still, this is important and you do need to be vocal about how you feel and call the doctor's office that prescribed these things for you if your mom won't listen, you need to visit your physician so they can determine if you are ok or need different medication/intervention.

My best wishes,

Liz M.

My Mum has had to have two operations to remove two seperate cysts.

hey all its andrea i anted to ask you all soemthing. when you get up in the morning do you feel somtimes kinda yucky? i have been dealing with that for a long time now. i get up my tummy wakes me up then i am awake and then i do noting for a while and it ddoesnt go away for a while. what have you doen to help that if you do deal with that?

I have been woken by the pain Andrea, unfortunately, there's not a lot that can be done about it. I am with the others about talking with your Mum or refer her here to read this. Have you talked to your mother about how much pain you are in? Could you and she maybe go and see your doctor again? Maybe he/she could give you recommendations as to something that you could take to ease the ouch. My doctor makes sure that I have medication for the pain so it won't be so awful, but sometimes even that doesn't cut it. I think talking with your Mum is your best bet. Ask her to take you back to the doctor to talk about pain management during this time of "experiment" to see if the meds will get rid of the cysts for you, that's about all I can suggest to you. I am sorry that you are having to go through this...you're so young. I got my first cyst at 18, and had my first surgery for them at 25. I know that this is a pain in the butt (sometimes very literally) and it must be very frustrating for you. Talk to your mother, that's what I would want my daughter to do. Thinking of you and hoping that you feel better soon.
