Well, I was taking pics of the flooding in our area last week and had put my camera in my jacket pocket. Bent over in the flooded tack room and out it plunks into 6 inches of water. Tried drying it out and it will turn on but nothing else works......so.......I'm looking for a new digital camera. Does anyone have an absolute favorite?? I'd like one that has a fairly fast shutter speed....you know, doesn't take 2 seconds to go from pressing the button to when it actually takes the picture?? I also like simple, I don't use all the special features, I just want to take pics of my horses and family! Of course the computer program to play with the pics should be simple also. My old one was a Kodak Easy Share and I liked the easy part! It just wasn't very fast....push the button and by the time the pic took it wasn't what you wanted anymore. I'd appreciate your input!

Hi Sandy,

Maxim received a Canon PowerShot SD450 for Christmas. It takes wonderful photos and has a burst feature and can short video. The photo quality is great so far.

ive had a ton of different digital cameras and by far my favorite is kodak. After all they have been making cameras longer then anyone! I have always had so much trouble with anything with the name Canon on it and so have a lot of my friends. Dont even get me started on Canon printers ughhhh. Kodak makes them in about every price range. For sure you will pay more for one that doesnt have a delay but I think its worth it. I HATE THE DELAY on digitals! Im hoping to buy a new digital in spring and for sure it will be a Kodak

I still have my Kodak Easy Share CX4230. I love it alot but as you say..push the button 1,2,3 then click. For my birthday I got a Konica Minolta Dimage Z5 optical zoom12x, antishake, you can take one at a time or several in seconds! I'm still learning alot about (very challenging) but I do love it. A bit priciey compared to Easy Share.

I would decide which feature of the camera is most important to you ( size and weight of camera, size of lens, image quality, etc. etc) and then check out Consumer Report or one of the digital camera magazines ratings.

Most all of the new digital cameras are great- it's just a matter of preference and how much you want to spend.

Sort of like buying a car- everyone has their own opinion. I have a Sony Cybershot and I adore it. Its very pricey, though, and has more features than I will ever use. It was a surprise gift from my husband. I just shopped around for a new camera for my daughter to take to Africa with her and we bought the new Kodak Easy Share with the 10x zoom. We wanted a good camera with a high power zoom that also could take regular batteries ( she isn't going to be able to recharge batteries where she is camped) and the EasyShare was perfect. I'm hoping that she is going to get some great shots. My son just bought a digital camera also but his main priority was that it be really small and have a big LCD screen. He bought the Casio Exilim which seems to be working out great for him.

your best best is to go to whereever you want to buy the camera, and ask the people there what camera has a fast shutter speed. for good photos in a digtal camera you need at least 3.5 mega pixles, but now you can 5 for the same price i paid for my 3.5. I have a sony cyber shot, i like it but it changes shutter speed on it's own, so in dim light it takes pictures slow, and in bright light it takes pictures fast. as for my personal choice for a digtal camera, it right here CLICKY! as you can see not simple and not cheep, but it's still my choice. it always to make all same setting you would with a 35mm film camera, but with the modern features of digital, not to mention the 350mega pixles

edit: i forgot to talk about zoom, with a digital camera you may want to get something with a good zoom on it. zooms really come in handy. and also if your old one is just turning on, you might want to try to put new battires in it and see if it works, some times mine will just turn on and nothing else, it's because the batteries are dead.

We have a Canon digital Rebel. It's AWESOME. I think it was well worth what we paid for it. It can be kind of bulky at times the pictures it takes are absolutely fabulous. The detail is so good I can see all the tiny hairs on my horses! It has a very good shutter speed as well. We took photos at some barrel racing and they turned out great. The camera even took great pictures in low light.

Thanks for the input....anyone else with a favorite??

My first digital was a Cannon Power Shot A10 and I have had it for years and it still works fine.

Any picture I ever posted on here was from that camera.

A couple of days ago I got a new camera just because I wanted something that had more zoom ad MP's

so I got a Cannon Power Shot S21S and it has 12 op zoom. I have not used it much yet because its been raining so much

but the little I have used it I like it. I will try and take some pictures later and post them.

I just got a Canon Rebel XT EOS for Christmas and WOW am I impressed!!! My "old" one is a Canon too, but the shutter speed was not very fast and my action shots were mostly blurry. That camera I will keep for stills for say family reunions and things like that....my Rebel I can point and click, click click....it's awesome! It has a few features that I've had to learn, but as I go I learn them, or sit down and read the book every now and then so I can do much more with it. In the meantime I'm taking photos that I'm very pleased with. The quality of the pics are amazing.

If it hasnt been a real long time you might not have to give up on your camera just yet

My camera fell out of my pocket and into the water tank. It would turn on but nothing else and the screen was black for over a week. I left it on the heater in the house and a good 2 weeks later it started working again - its still alive and working fine right now. The poor thing has been dropped so many times, fell from a horse a few times, it had that trip into the water tank, took a nose dive into the snow bank and everthing else.
