Guess it's our turn to go through this - I've had a light year for vet bills and we just can't have that...

I have a little mare going into surgery on Monday, prognosis isn't great but we will give it a try. We don't know how she did it, but the ground has been so dry and cracked here that I'm only guessing she stepped in a hole and went down badly.

She's at my vet until Monday, resting quietly until we haul her to the surgical clinic. She's too nice a mare to give up on - and has a spirit that won't let go easily. Say a prayer for Artie.......thanks.

Sorry your girl is down.. Sending prayers that everything will go good for you all..

As we taked about in earlier email, you said she has the determination and the will. In my opinion that is 75% of the recovery. She is young and will come thru her surgery with flying colors.. I left a message with Dr. Major at Oakridge, if your vet wants/needs to consult with him. Dreamer is 6 months post surgery and she is galloping! You know your mare BETTER than anyone else. Hang in there, there are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many angels on this forum, before you know it, she will be up and running....Call us if you need us....Art and Theresa

Adding my prayers and good thoughts for your mare, good luck!

Her determination is about 90%. I had a mare (big horse) in the '70's that split her groin open. At UCDavis they said her odds of living was 200,000 to 1. We visited her every day. We lived 45 miles away and my parents took me to Davis every day. She looked forward to our visits and she NEVER lost her appitite. The techs would feed her first and by the time they were getting done feeding the barn she was ratteling her bucket and they would come give her a second feed because they thought she was so funny. As long as your baby keeps her mood high she will be fine. I saw others with casts and such and they just wanted attention. Work to keep her spirits up. and we will be praying for her.

Prayers for your Artie. Sounds like a wonderful mare. Good luck with her recovery.

Jan - you know that I am here for you if you have any questions. Good luck & many prayers for you and Artie. Keep us all posted.

:pray coming your way from Maine!!!!! Good luck and hoping for a speedy recovery!

Artie has great spirit AND a great, loving mom in her favor -- add to that the prayers and thoughts of friends across the country and throughout the world and her odds have just improved drastically.

Get well soon, Artie!

Just spent an hour or so with her at the vets this afternoon - she's hanging in there so far, and was glad for the company. I gave her a good handful of Platinum and did a lot of ttouch & ear work on her which surely can't hurt

. They have her in a big stall with the door open to an outdoor run, and although she can't move freely enough to go outside she's used to being an outdoor mare and is standing in the sun looking outside. I closed the door for awhile to get her out of the hot sun, and she was not happy with me LOL.

We move her tomorrow afternoon to the surgical clinic, and they will operate Monday morning.

I'm so sorry to hear about your girl. I hope that everything goes well with her surgery, please keep us posted on her progress!

Jan, I am so sorry to read about your mare.

I will keep her in my thoughts. She sounds like a spunky lady..

Prayers for Artie from myself and Dawn - the filly in my avatar. Dawn was born with a dislocated hip and fractured femur and is now a healthy 3 year old. Yes, the one leg is about 2 inches shorter, but Dawn doesn't know anything is wrong with her.

Feel free to e-mail me if you want - your girl will do fine. As we on the forum know, there are certainly success stories out there - Dreamer being the most recent one.

Will be anxiously waiting for news on Monday.
