I am just curious to see how many people feel they live in a safe enough place to leave their doors unlocked 24/7, even when not at home.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY to this thread because I don't want anyone to say tell us they leave their doors unlocked 24/7 and have some crazy person or thief find them through the power of the net.

Our dogs aren't overly large, but my husband has an intact male Red Heeler with all the breeds usual tendencies. To be honest, I don't trust him too far.

I think even if you live somewhere where you feel you could, it is better not to.

Nope, I don't....I watch too much Forensic files and shows of that nature....and in this day and age, I would think about the drifter's that can come into your quiet sleepy little town and wreak havoc.

I know you said not to reply, but you know what a motor mouth I am!!!

Next Tuesday, ADT is coming out to install a top notch, doors, windows, remote, wireless calling alarm system if that tells you anything... Also, I keep all the yard gates, which you must go through to get to the horse paddocks, padlocked. Keep the heavy doors and the storm doors locked, too! First thing I do when I get into my car is lock the doors.

To LOOK at my area, it's very rural and peaceful. It's a nice to look at area, yet there is a place about a mile up the road where they've got people in and out all times of the day (selling drugs), a few sex offenders w/in a mile or so including one that's basically next door.

Better safe than sorry and it only takes a split second to lock things up.

Just a note: I asked if you FEEL you can leave your doors unlocked. I'm certainly not suggesting that just because you FEEL you can, that you do.

I voted "sometimes." The only time that I don't feel absolutely safe is at night. That's mainly because I live across from 3 bars and sometimes some strange things happen here at night. My doors stay locked at all times, especially after dark.

I have 10 dogs. Most of the time the feed bill gets to be a bit too much, but when some drunk is walking up my driveway saying "mommy mommy" I'm sure glad that I have them

I've also had 2 men dressed in black show up on my carport

That was pretty scarey and I called 911 only to find out that they were bounty hunters looking for someone (they told me that, but I sure don't trust strange men who show up uninvited
