Yes, we very much enjoy going for walks with the horses. I like to take the youngest ones most of all because they are so intrigued and it helps prepare them for later life driving careers when they will experience all of it in harness and need to know it won't hurt them, be blasé about it.

Often we encounter people who have never seen them, and have a quick chance to educate them about miniatures. Lots of times they are impressed with their looks compared to what they might have "thought" was a miniature horse.

We just started taking ours out. We took our mare Rainbow, out today for the first time.

She loved it and was such a good girl. She trotted and even got to run a bit. She was not spooked by anything we encountered, dogs barking and running up, trucks, cars, signs.lol! It was a lot of fun. Here is my 9 year old with Rainbow.

Oh sure but we live in a very remote area with mostly woods and trails so don't encounter people..Would love that though.

I can't go far but my husband does goes farther with them..they love it and get excited when they see us get out a halter.

I used to walk my horses allll the time! I loved it as much and probably more than they did! When I lived in town I used to spend the whole day getting one horse out at a time and walking through one section of neighborhood, then go home, get another one, and go through another section.

The neighborhood people came to expect me and one of my little horses walking... even my bred mare went for a walk a few times with me and when she foaled I waited till the baby was a couple of weeks old and walked her momma around the government housing project...the elderly people and the young children just fell in love with her and she even brought tears to a few older peoples eyes who were once equine owners themselves.

Once I moved into the country I would walk my horses a little, but not too far. I just didn't feel as safe walking in a rural area alone with just my little horse and me.

I always take my minis for walks. I actually have a "big horse" filly (9 months) and I take her for walks too. It is a great way to get them use to traffic, especially motorcycles. (we live on a back road, but we still get a 10-15 cars every hour or so).

I have never had a spooking issue when they are eventually put on the cart.

I have alot of city folks that stop and take photos LOL.

When we lived in California we used to take ours on walks every night around the neighborhood. We were all in great shape then, maybe we should start that up again! We would have the strangest people stop and ask us what the minis were, most throught they were dogs!lol! We always had a great time, and the minis walked much nicer than my dog on a leash!

Yea! Me and my friends walk them down into the "Bruce Trail" and up the road. We walked toward town to the local coffee Shop Tim Hortons Too LOL LOL Zorro was a hit.

And Sweetgrass and me looking young when was that again?

Last winter I was walking my, sooty buckskin, mare down the country road, past some big horses, and a man drove out of his laneway towards us. He thought, from a distance, that I was stealing his donkey.

We found a lovely hiking trail, through a pine bush, after I decided to go the other way down the road.

Absolutely! I live in a country town but we have a lot of farm vehicles, trains and trucks to deal with. Chilli and I have built up a great bond through all our walks and she is so brave now and not bothered by much (although she had a heart attack the first time she saw a sheep).

Every Sunday we go down to the shops to get the paper and when I come out of the shop she is always surrounded by a mob of fans and she laps up the attention.

Lots of people want to give her something to eat and aren't impressed when I try to explain that she on strict diet. Doesn't help when she does her most appealing face at everyone, peeking out from under that massive forelock

Walking has helped her lose weight and I'm sure the traffic training will pay off when she finally gets into harness!

Walks are an important part of my training for the horses. Because my main goal is steady driving horses that I can take down the road they need to be used to the road, traffic, barking dogs, etc. I start walking them as soon as they are halter trained and continue on through their lives.

The neighbors love it too. I get great reactions from people driving by... I had a guy almost drive into the graveyard fence because when my gelding was a weaner he though I was walking a golden retriever until he got half past and realized it was a tiny horse, then he laughed so hard he swerved off the road.

Yes I walk my horses around the huge fields behind our house, 30 arces, and we have a ball, I let my horses look around, see things they normally dont see, and sometimes we find some pretty neat things! I think it is a great way to bond with your horse. My boy always knows when I come into the field with a leadrope, hes ready to go for sure!

We always take our minis for walks. If its not my mom and I walking them, its my friends and I. We live really close to the beach, so we will walk them on the beach. We walk them everywhere. We don't have a trailer yet so when we volunteer at this farm a mile or so from my house we walk there! Our minis just love it!

I wish I could take Melody for walks down the road onto the canal bank but there are so many loose dogs around here, we would surely get attacked

I think hiking with her would be alot of fun! I have to get a horse trailer first lol.

We go for walks all the time around here

We are on 10 acres but only about a block from downtown . We live in a small village with a few stores and we always get alot of people that admire them while we are down there. Some even have to get their cameras and come back for pictures !

, I live in Central Phoenix (which is anything but remote). People go zipping past, though most stop when they see its a horse and not a dog, some actually come to a screaching stop and back up.

There is a park about a block from here and we "usually" head down there but sometimes go the other way and head for the swim club. The parents pick up the kids there and we get mobbed, those kids even swim in the winter and they are outdoor pools. :Cold-Scared

I usually take one of the stallions but will start taking one if they are acting "googy" at home and I think they need to see different things that "won't" eat them.
