So these two guys decide to rob a home about a mile up the road from us. So the home owner comes home from a doctor's appointment and catches them. He pulls a gun and fires shots at them. Deputy just happens to be driving down the street and heard the shots. Things got interesting. The two guys are now behind bars and likely needed the change of clothes they were provided. I am still trying to find a version of the news to post. Our newspaper is so cheesy you can't see a whole article online unless you are a subscriber. I will post it as soon as I can pick it up somewhere else online.

Edited to add short news video with home owner on local tv station on post 6 of this thread.

So glad they were caught. What great luck for the home owner. It's too bad that more situatons don't turn out like this, with criminals scared witless, arrested, and no one hurt.

Glad they were caught. I hope all is well!

This post caught my eye because my husband and I have an ongoing argument about "gun control."

Earlier this month, at about 4 AM, in Maple Valley near Seattle, a 66 year old veterinarian living on about 10 acres shot and killed a male and wounded a female. He called 911, then as the situation escalated he hung up, popped a couple rounds, and then called 911 again. Speculation was that the intruders may have been looking for drugs since he is a vet. Prior, he had called multiple times regarding intrusions. In his neighborhood, there had been 3 burglary complaints in the past 8 days (not sure if they all originated from him.) The husband says, see he can do it; so can I. BUT... The reason I argue with my husband is not because I'm a gun control advocate, but rather because I don't want my husband in jail with a pile of legal bills up to his ear lobes. It doesn't help that he loves all things that go boomie, and it doesn't help that we inherited a veritable arsenal when my dad passed.

If someone even looks at our property, he wants to whip out a gun. We've progressed to the point that he agrees (in theory) that he can only shoot someone if they kick the door down and enter the house. If something like that ever happened, I'd like him to take the gun butt and whack me on the nose (makes lotsa' blood) and then I'd lay on the floor and scream that I was hugely injured. He doesn't want to bash me, but if it ever came down to it I'd smash my own face in, because the sad fact is that people can and will do horrible things to other people; if you try to defend yourself you're as apt to be prosecuted as the intruder. It's hard to know how these things end up, though, because after the initial report on the news, you never hear how things end.

Here is the tv station report. I see the home is down on the not-so-residential end of the street. The other end of the street is very residential with small older brick homes. I could not imagine somebody thinking they could invade one of those homes undetected.http://www.ktbs.com/news/Both-Suspects-In-Custody-In-Bowie-County-Burglary/-/144844/19773248/-/46m0wd/-/index.html

I know we have been asked not to discuss politics and/or gun control on the forum. This only a story about what happened in my neighborhood this week. Most of you already know these guys would have been less unfortunate on our place by the time these trulyTexans and guard dogs unloosed them.

ohhh, geez. I apologize. I should have realized that if posts about guide animals are 'bad' then posts about politics or guns would be considered inflammatory on these forums. I think I've done it several times recently. I am truly sorry.

AngC, I am assuming you are not apologizing to me. That would be not at all necessary. I am one that has never been shy to express my views on anything at all. I am neither an old-timer or a newbie here. From my observation discussing politics was at one time a no-no and then it got approved to discuss it prior to the last election. And it wasn't just politics. There is and always will be persecution of people that hold to their convictions. And then after the site took new ownership the old ownership became a firm believer in "express yourself" and the new ownership made a smart business decision to outline what could and could not be discussed. Me, myself, and I was not at all on board for that! I totally believe in expressing yourself. It just reinforces to me that there are all types out there (out there, way, way, out there if you get my drift.) I also liked the fact that I was able to know where fellow forum members stood or were mum on all controversial subjects. While I respect the decisions that have been made as far as "the current rules" I admit that I miss getting to express my views (aka known as testifying and preaching). The vaguely disguised ridiculing I received from opposing forces of my beliefs was like water off a duck's back to me and I hope that one day the Back Porch will once again be an area where "if you can't run with the big dogs then stay off the porch!" I am a firm believer in "you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything." I feel that everyone is entitled to opinion even if in my opinion theirs is misguided. It is what makes the world go round so to speak. I have no idea about what took place in any remarks about guide animals but I hope you did not get much of a hand slapping. At least you can type in guide animals. I could not type vibrator once in a post and have no idea what was up with that and so if the system nabs what I just said. I will spell it backwards. Here goes. Testing one two... testing... ortarbiv. Don't feel badly. At least you have not been warned, and warned, and warned and then banned. That can and does happen. I feel whatever happened was truly innocence on your part. I admit that I have many concerns right now for our citizens and I do miss being able to let it all out about anything and everything and if ever I make a stab at political correctness it is for sure not a serious stab. If allowed to I would be ranting about what is going on our country today. I come here to see what is going on with world of minis and the fellow owners. The good news is although a lot of the past threads are not in plain sight you can keyword words and go back and read some really interesting posts. Hint: democrat, republican, liberal, patriot, libertarian, abortion, weapons, Benghazi, muslims, islam, Christian and so forth. Four letter words are too short for a search (for example Bush, Cain) but you might try anything and everything with five or more letters and search all forums (for example Palin, lipstick, Clinton.) I hope that the mods do not see me as overstepping my boundaries but in all fairness I do believe it a good thing to be able to search in forums for anything even if a particular thread is locked.

hmmm, I messed up the quote thing...

No, vickie gee, I wasn’t apologizing specifically to you. (I suspect we may share similar views or at least would be able to discuss them in a spirited manner (somewhere else)) ...but when you mentioned discussing gun control, politics, etc. I realized that I had recently posted about several such topics here without even thinking.

Previously, I had been “moderated” for asking a question about guide animals (NOT trying to raise that topic here and now) which I still don’t understand since several more senior members had commented and fewer than a couple months had passed since there had been a survey on the topic. In that same post, I had asked about in-breeding vs line-breeding and expected that if I were to be moderated, it would have been on the breeding topic. After being “moderated” I erased my entire post. I like to come here and chat/read. To me, my silly questions are not worth it, if they upset someone else on someone else’s (not mine) forum.

I still have many questions on both topics, but... I have no desire to upset anyone. The moderators/board owners have no obligation to allow me free speech; it’s their forum. So, I realized that I had made several comments recently that probably weren’t appropriate. For that I apologized.
