This post caught my eye because my husband and I have an ongoing argument about "gun control."
Earlier this month, at about 4 AM, in Maple Valley near Seattle, a 66 year old veterinarian living on about 10 acres shot and killed a male and wounded a female. He called 911, then as the situation escalated he hung up, popped a couple rounds, and then called 911 again. Speculation was that the intruders may have been looking for drugs since he is a vet. Prior, he had called multiple times regarding intrusions. In his neighborhood, there had been 3 burglary complaints in the past 8 days (not sure if they all originated from him.) The husband says, see he can do it; so can I. BUT... The reason I argue with my husband is not because I'm a gun control advocate, but rather because I don't want my husband in jail with a pile of legal bills up to his ear lobes. It doesn't help that he loves all things that go boomie, and it doesn't help that we inherited a veritable arsenal when my dad passed.
If someone even looks at our property, he wants to whip out a gun. We've progressed to the point that he agrees (in theory) that he can only shoot someone if they kick the door down and enter the house. If something like that ever happened, I'd like him to take the gun butt and whack me on the nose (makes lotsa' blood) and then I'd lay on the floor and scream that I was hugely injured. He doesn't want to bash me, but if it ever came down to it I'd smash my own face in, because the sad fact is that people can and will do horrible things to other people; if you try to defend yourself you're as apt to be prosecuted as the intruder. It's hard to know how these things end up, though, because after the initial report on the news, you never hear how things end.
