In previous topics I believe you stated there were 4 (?) different types of dwarves. Could you show examples of the different types and what characteristics you look for in determining dwarfism.

Thanks

I normally don't bother to log in when reading the Forums. I only log in when I want to reply to a post or start one. Were you aware that you can not get to the Dwarf Forum unless you are logged in?

While I was not logged in, I read this topic and went to the main "Forum" page to look for the link to the Dwarf Forum. It wasn't there. Then I came back to this topic, and I saw the link you had listed. I tried the link, but got an error message. I thought something was wrong, and I logged in (so I could say that the link you gave wasn't working and that I couldn't find the link in the Forum index), suddenly the Dwarf Forum was in the list, and then I came back here and tried the link you gave, and it is working now too.

Is this the way it was intended for people to get the the Dwarf Forum, that they HAVE to be logged in first? Are you not allowing 'lurkers' to read the dwarf questions and answers?

It doen't make any real difference to me, as I can easily log in, but it might exclude a lot of people who like to read Lil Beginnings, but aren't 'members'.

John has done an absolutely FANTASTIC job answering all of our questions so far. I have learned so much from reading his answers tonight........some I have read 3 or 4 times. I hope those of you (and there have been many) who have participated in these dwarf threads come and read this information from an expert. Everyone could learn so much. There is just no excuse for ignorance when we have the opportunity that we have right now to get our questions answered.

So come on over and get some education.

DWARFISM IN MINIATURES

John, you are truly amazing and I can't thank you enough.

Carol,

I completely agree with you!!

Just want to add to the KUDOS, to John, AND to Mary Lou--for making this happen here, where this vital information on the ongoing research is being made open and available to all! It's one of the greatest ideas/occurances EVER here on this great Forum!!!

Hopefully, much needed education will occur, and some 'myths' will be dispelled. So far,for me, there have been no 'surprises' in what has been put forth--but that is what research is about-to see if the best scientific theory, and already-proven facts, applies or doesn't, and if not, what DOES! Research is unquestionably a slow, careful, and tedious process, but one that can have MANY 'rewards' in how it can bring about changes for the better!!

A HUGE thanks to all of you who are part of bringing this to the LB Forum!!

OK--yet another reason for me to admire Carol (in addition to her straightforward and upfront ways! )Thanks, Carol!! Still, Mary Lou, you are the one who has provided the 'place' for this to happen, so I don't think a 'Thank You' to you is at all out of place!! All three of you have my utmost admiration for 'making this happen'!!

Margo

Thank you

Carol for asking John and thank you John for providing us with your research and opinions. It truly is something to read through the answers several times to absorb what is being said. One thing that stood out for me was the reason for keeping the taller minis in the breeding programs. When something is explained, it is so easy then to understand and make choices for doing the best we can. Thanks again to those who are responsible for bringing this to us. Mary

KUDOS to Carol, John...and YOU MaryLou! This has been long needed!

Some will say it's STILL "one person's opinion"......but this person (John) is an expert in this area, IMO....and a leader in Dwarf research.

This is a much better way to learn about Dwarfism...than to listen to people arguing about their various "opinions"...a lot of which don't come from experience or research....but come from nothing more than something they read, or was told by someone else.

This results in a lot of confusing ideas on Dwarfism.

I would hope that we ALL appreciate this opportunity to possibly learn something....and be thankful that we have someone who is pursuing research in this area & trying to learn something that may well, eventually, be able to isolate some of the Dwarf genes to help improve the breed.

Please try to have an open mind....I know I am pretty set in my ways, and have been hesitant to change my opinions at times. But, I must admit, that I HAVE had my mind changed on some things over the years that I was SURE about.

Not easy for an old-timer like me!

Thank you Dona, Margo, Mary......and all you guys who have sent the nicest emails!

Dona......like you said........John is an expert. If we can't look to him who CAN we look too?

I would find it very closed minded to think of these things as "one man's opinion". Unfortunately people will skew things to fit their needs or beliefs. That's OK........no matter what people are still "absorbing".

And YES, all the bickering back and forth with opinions that don't come from experience or research is just a pile of confusing garbage. Pardon me if I sound harsh but I don't know how else to put it and I always say how I feel. Might not be popular but I am not here to win a popularity contest either.

Let's all try to learn as much as we can while we have the opportunity! Keeping an OPEN mind is the key to knowledge.

Thanks again you guys! And YES! The biggest THANK YOU to Mary Lou.....a great person.....a great friend......and the reason we all are here!

This is very much appreciated.

People can stick their heads in the sands of denial all they want to, but when one backs up their observations with scientific research, we need to pay attention if we're going to move forward for the betterment of the breed.

I also appreciate the closed response format where there is one answer and we can read those, it is not open to debate unless we have another intelligent question to ask.

Thanks so much, everyone, I am enjoying reading this. It is amazing how much is not yet known, and yet much of John's observations mirror my suspicions.

I, too, like Dona, have found my ideas and ideals challenged since I began, and that is why having Miniature horses is exciting. We're all learning and growing. I would love to know that one day in the not too distant future we'll have a definitive test.

Thanks to everyone involved with that idea, and executing it. It is a much better, more informative and productive way to discuss and learn about the issue than some of the recent forum threads.

For those of you who want more...and are close enough attend....the Miniature Horse Club of Ontario is very fortunate to have John Eberth come to Canada to talk with us. He will be lecturing on February 17th in Campbellville, Ontario (about 1 hour north-west of Toronto) and we are offering this wonderful opportunity to anyone who is interested.

Just go to our website at www.mhco.ca and then to the Calendar page. There is a link there to the flyer with all the information on the event. If you want any more information, just write to the link provided.

Hope to see some of you there!

One thing is for sure...we are all BLESSED to have Mary Lou and this great place of learning that she generously provides for us all.

And having Carol who tells it straight. She's such an asset to this wonderful forum!

And to John who is willing to give so much of his time in sharing his knowledge with us. What an awesome opportunity!

I APPRECIATE allof you!! Thank you very much!

Just to let everyone know on this board that the end of this week is the end of the Dwarfism Question and Answer Forum. I believe it has run its course of questions to be asked. If any of you have questions regarding Dwarfism in the Miniatures at some later time, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. I want to thank all of you for all of your interest and questions. I hope that someday soon I will be letting you know any important information that will help this breed become better.

Thank you again.

John Eberth
