Editing software

I have some cute pics but I need some sort of editng sofware. Like I need to remove a background or add shading. Any free softeware. Or really cheap software that is easy to use???

GIMP-Very similar to Adobe Photoshop. It takes a little bit of practice to get used to it and you may need to look up some directions, but IMO it is by far the best free editing software I have found. Just google GIMP and the link to download it should come up for you.

I downloaded the program. But for the life of me I cant figure out how to remove the pic from the background. I even downloaded the help!! Good grief!!!
