I say...all right-n-go for it!

Many of the Exhibitions we go to; the horses are either led and/or driven past, or shown almost beside the "goings-on" such as ferris-wheels, and other zippy things. We've also taken the horses to Parades where the Shriners have buzzed right under our noses...without the blink of any eye, even from the babies. If they can handle that...then for heaven's sake...what's a motorized wheelchair?

I say kudos to you, and your horse. Are you planning to drive as well, at some point?

Go for it!!

You have every right to be in the ring so kick butt... :bgrin

GO FOR IT, Forget everyone else they are not worth the time. Do this FOR YOURSELF KARI, and don't let it bother you what others think.

I will stand up for ya.

i am 17 and in a chair i have been showing for three years now i have a gelding that i show and he does really good, i also have a two year old stallion that i showed last year and he was great with the chair. i am plainng on going to nationals this year to.

Hey Kari...

The only problem I could see is if you DIDN'T show her! She's such a pretty girl, and having seen the two of you together, I think she would show her heart out for you. I'm really looking forward to seeing the two of you out in the show ring!

Will you be at Boring? I hope you'll be at some of the AMHR shows, or at least Boring and Oregon State Fair so that I can be there to see you. Remember that anytime when Keith and I are there, we always have an extra hand or two to lend!

You know my thoughts on it, I would be happy to have you out there, and would not get a bit distressed even IF my horse had a moment about the chair, but then, most of them have been around far crazier things, and you're at some of the shows, we lead them from it, and you hold them, etc. etc. sooooo!

I think the only thing is if you could have someone in there to help if something got tangled or (remember Smokey?), and if I'm in with you, you know I would, but I keep getting all these boy horses, and my mares are all too old and pregnant to show. ;)

I'm excited that you will be going!!!!

Anything we can do to help make it easier is just a request away. ;)

It will be a learning experience for all involved, I suppose…

Annette, I look forward to showing with you! Don’t worry -- I won’t take a move personal. I guess I just want to make sure no one blames a poor placing on me. I’ve been told I worry too much.

Ashley, let me know when her sibling is born!

So YOUR to blame, Sanny!!! LOL, just kidding.

Cimmaron and papillionlover, perhaps we’ll all show together at Nationals one day!

Sue C., yes, I’ll drive her ASAP, I can’t use the Jeralds so am working on getting a custom one made! :aktion033: ‘Til then, it’ll just be open with her 2nd trainer, Summer Sayles.

LOL Thanks, Rob. I’ll sic you on any naysayers!!

Susanne, I think you may be right, she does tend to be better behaved with me… but Portia has also done wonders with her. I don’t think she or I will be at Boring, but I may come down to cheer you and Mingus on! Don’t know yet about OSF, but we’ll most likely be there! Thanks for the offer of help. Just may use it! Oh, yeah… and I’m sure Tig is gratified you acknowledged her beauty.

LOL… Smokey. Ahh, memories…. Yes, I think someone should go in with me for emergencies. Even Brandon could probably be enough help, and no one could complain about coaching or unfair advantages! Nah, but it seems like y’all got my back. ‘Tis great to have such wonderful friends.

I see no problems with it at all! Go and have fun, my daughter the past couple of years showed in youth and there was a young girl in a powered wheelchair that showed in the youth classes, open classes and anything she could. There was never a problem of any kind while she showed her horse.

I guess I just want to make sure no one blames a poor placing on me.
People come up with all kinds of reasons why they placed bad, and I have probably come up with some excuses too

for you and the others who posted that they show in chairs etc., you are awesome!! :bgrin i would be proud to be showing with you and to have you BEAT me!! :saludando: :saludando:

try not to worry so much, we take our minis to visit at retirement homes and they soon figure out that the wheelchair is just part of the person petting them or feeding them treats...

Am going to add my voice.

Go for it KARI!! And enjoy it!!!! Oh...and we would love to see pictures when you do show!! :aktion033:

Anyone that would blame their placing on you would be just looking for an excuse.

I'm happy that you are going to be showing and if you ever wind up at the same show we are at and need help we would be happy to help out plus you are welcome to hang out with us.

If you are afraid your chair might spook a horse, you haven't seen this go wheeling by at a show yet......

SpencerandSawyerinwagon.jpg

And if that doesn't spook a horse, try getting past our stalls with all the chairs, toys and kids hanging out at most shows.......

Now Sanny you know those pics are not right. The kids are to mellow.........and appear NOT to be full of sugar. Its a bit to um.........not normal........where are the sugar pics?????

Kari ... I know you know that I drive, but I've also shown Halter - Amateur, Open, and PMC/Special Needs, at the Local, Regional And National level. My chair has never been a problem as far as distracting other horses - most show horses I've known have seen much "weirder" things than my wheelchair! LOL I have, on occasion, become stuck in deep footing ... but in the mini world there are always great people around who don't mind helping you out. I've even had a judge or 2 help to haul me out of a "stcky situation" before!

At first I had a "helper" go in the ring with me ... since I have no use on my hands and fingers, I wanted someone there just in case I needed help. They pretty much tried to blend in and just hung out by the wall unless I ran into trouble. Eventually I had the confidence to go it alone. This is me and "Seamus" - we were a great team!

I say go for it. I have been to shows where I have been beaten by someone in a wheelchair. You are a person and have talents also. There's no reason why you can't do the same. I think it would be wonderful to have you in the Ammy showring. Good luck this year..

I use a scooter at Nationals, the classes are jsut to big to stand in. I also may try jumping one of my horses with the scooter, since I don't have the stamina to go around the jumps. I say GO FOR IT!!! It is great!!!! Hope to see you at AMHR Nationals this year.
