I really need to find a good equine dentist. My vet has been doing my miniatures but he really doesn't want to anymore. I do have a contact for an equine dentist but he charges $150 per horse whether they need something done or not. I'm sorry but that is too expensive.

My horses had work done while in training this year and it was much, much cheaper. So, I'm curious........what are you paying for dental work? I really need to find someone so if you know of anyone, I'd be most grateful. My herd is small and I'm located in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania.

Here in eastern PA I am paying $80 per horse for a power float. Prior to this, they did the manual floats on the minis for $65. I am more than willing to pay the extra, much better job, no nicked gums, and efficient.

Now this is through the vet clinic I use, not an equine dentist, but I must add that 2 of 3 equine vets do teeth, and they do a GREAT job. That price is not counting the the call fee or office visit. I usually try to schedule them all at once, if they can't get to all of them. I bring the others to the clinic, usually the office fee is absorbed into the bill so I do not get charged again.

Looking at yearlings to determine if everything looks good or if they may have issues with something is free.

I do all my own floats myself BUT we have a AWESOME equine dentist local and if I cant do something myself I call him! He charges $65 and up pending the issue. He also travels out of state.

He dose all the equine events (expos) and dose demostrations!

We use Carl Mitz whenever we can. He's around $55 if he does any work and (used to be) 0 if they didn't need work. He's great to work with but the only way I can get him to see my minis is a Nationals.

The one old guy (gelding that is) has to go to the local vet so sedation plus (probably her payment on the high speed drill) float is around $90 - then add the trailer trip of about 30 miles one way to her "office".

Geeze, I wish it was that cheap here! Were at $250 a horse for the actual equine dentist and I think the vet charges $120.

Ha, no wonder the vets want to put an end to the equine dentistry.. they are making a KILLING on dental work (and dont do as good a job in my opinion). We also use Carl Mitz annually.

YEP......Carl Mitz is the BEST! Much more reasonable than my vets, and does a much better job! Don't know what I'd do without him!

We use an equine dentist in Southeastern PA... He might travel to you. He is FANTASTIC!!! Absolutely the best I have ever worked with. 80 for a routine float, have paid up to 120 for extended work. He uses manual tools and power float if needed.

He has done some amazing things with our horses mouths, horses with weight problems or riding problems. It is amazing how many things a horses mouth affects.

PM me if you want his name... He might come up that way, never hurts to ask.

I pay $340 for a dental float and wolf tooth pull. My vet is great. It's not the most expensive thing here, so meh.

Andrea

Can someone PM me what Carl Mitz charges. Please ..... Thank You!

ETA: Never Mind I went back and read everything and found the price.

Hi Debbie

Merry Christmas !

There is an Equine Dentist here in Virginia,,, a colleague

of Carl Mitz. He has come here several times,

and he's very good. His name is Ken Fletcher.

I'll keep an eye out for you. Im in Western PA, (about 45 minutes south of Pittsburgh) and Im also looking for a dentist who is comfortable working on minis. Heck, Id even pay the $150 if it was someone good who could come to me. I don't feel my vet does a good float job, so looking for an actual dentist.

Carl was out here last week doing our entire herd and making sure all the horses we sold in our on line sale were correct. Best in the business, bar none and worth whatever he charges for the work he does.

Solid, good with the horses, quick and I have never run in to a situation he could not handle without the use of drugs in over 15 years of using him!!! Individual vets may be good at it, but it is an acquired skill as they are given so little training in college and Carl for instance looks at literally over 10,000 horses a year. Practice makes perfect and that is what I want for our horses!

I too use Carl, but he did not come up to us this year. Too busy with the law suite. Hopefully he will come next spring.

I tried to find a local vet who could do them. I was told $125 per horse wether they needed it or not. They would sedate the horse before they would even check them, just to see if they even needed any work. Then, they did not have the right equipment, only full horse size.

I only had my driving horse done and stopped him right after that one. He had to pull two wolf teeth and one of them he broke off in the mouth and there was a partial stump left behind. He could not get it all out, and left it there.

So now I will have to get Carl to take care of it.

Without Carl, where would all of our horses be? Carl can go through my whole heard of $50, and I may end up with a bill of $500. Can you imagine paying $125 per horse and find that many of them did not need the work?

Hi Debbie, I sent you a private message.
