I found Equine PIne at tractor SUpply. Has anyone tried it? Is it cost efficient? We dont stall our horses a lot but it might be worth trying. ANy thoughts???

I have used it before and I like it alot. I prefer Streu-fex, which is a pellet made from straw so less dust, plus I'm allergic to pine and shavings, etc bother me the first day they're put out. I have used Woody Petz and the Equine Pine....I think they're pretty similar and I do prefer these over shavings. I think they're much more absorbent.

We tried it when we first moved into the new barn, it turned out to dusty to use for minis with them being lower to the ground. We went to sawdust as it is easier to clean than shavings and more cost effective. We were able to find someone to deliver good sawdust which actually isn't dusty at all.

How is saw dust with the foals? I heard it could stick to thier nose and sufficate them.

We do not use sawdust or shavings with our foals for that very reason. We have witnessed first hand, a foal suffocating on shavings. The necropsy showed that the lungs were full.....so we use only straw when we are foaling mares.
