Lizzie I would not call it common.

We had a rescue quarter horse with one. Amazingly she lived to be a year old. OSU had never seen one live that long. When we had her put down we donated her to OSU as they are working on techniques to save horses like that

sorry for your lost i have lost one before as well. we had to put one down years ago

for something different we spent several thousands dollars on our filly we got years ago but still could save her.

I had a miniature with cleft palate. She lived for seven years with the condition. She was a beautiful, small, and magnificent. The day I lost her, a piece of my heart chipped off and went with her over the bridge.
