I would like to start feeding flax along with Sand Clear- does anyone know where to find bulk flax? Our seed store doesn't carry it. Sure don't want to get it at the health food store!

I buy it 50# bag at a time from a local feed store. I think it's around $30 or so. However, I'm using it as a coat conditioner so I grind it then feed it to the show horses.

At my feed store, I can buy 10 to 50 pound bags.

Bulk Barn or a store like that may also have it. Its around, I am sure---so just look around.

I'm thinking of adding flax too. I've found it at a grocery store in the bulk section. Now looking for a decent priced coffee bean grinder to crush it, read that someone here does that, sounds good to me!

Plus, I read somewhere that it has a binding effect on sand too, is that what Sand Clear does? Anyone ever heard of this??

Hi!

I feed ground cold miled Flax seed. It comes in a 25lb bag and the only place I know of to get it is KV Vet Supply. I go online to get it.... And I give mine all a hand full of it once a day and a 25lb bag will last me 6 months feeding 12-15 of them.....

And I can sure notice a difference in their hair coat too....

I get a 50 lb bag from our local feed store; I grind it every morning and also add some Diamond V yeast to my minis feed. I was amazed at the lovely, vivid colors it brings out in the coats. My black mare has never looked so black..and oh so soft.

I use a coffee grinder. I got it at Walmart for like $6! The first one, I ruined attempting to grind the whole bag at once and it got to hot and died. What I did was to put the ground seeds into coffee cans and other containers w/ lids and stored them in the freezer until the current can in use would run out. You can take it directly from the freezer and use because it does not freeze into a solid but remains a loose "powder".

As a coat conditioner, I used to use Select Nu Image, which I think is a great feed through conditioner. However, I like the results of the Flax seed better and the cost is just a fraction of the Select Nu Image.
