OK, I have had many horses over lots of years and this is a new one on me. I just walked by Mira and Max's stall and heard a cute little whinney. I looked in and Max was lying on his side FAST ASLEEP!! But he was dreaming, as the little legs were going. He kept up the whinney for a bit but didn't wake up. He is 13 days old. Is this weird? Anything to be concerned about? Or normal and I just never encountered this before? Should I make a video??? Is he calling to Mom in his dream?

BTW, he is quite the livewire when he is awake!!!

I think it's cute.......

Our little ones may only be days or weeks old, but their brains are still operating while asleep.

We see it here too. My newborn filly is doing it. I am fascinated and can't resist stopping and watching / hearing it.

It is Waaayyyyy too cute.

Hmmm heard of feet moving and galloping, but haven't heard winnies - but wouldn't surprise me. Quite the livewire you have then!

I never heard that, But I had one that would snore as loud as my husband! Lorie

My dogs do a lot of moving and some talking in their sleep, so I bet it's not abnormal with a horse. Maybe we just don't see it as often because they aren't as likely to be "dead" asleep when we are around.

Yes, get a video and put it on YouTube.

There is a video there of a dog doing funny things in his sleep and that video has a zillion hits.

I think a video of yours would be just precious and cute.

One of my two year olds does that sometimes. Usually when I have been in the house busy and he doesn't know I am out there again. He is the little bundle of energy too.

With dogs we used to call it "chasing rabbits." We now say the horses do the same.

Oh yes, I've heard that.

Only two out of my six have nickered in their sleep... but it's definitly big on the "AWWWWWWW" factor. I think it's easiest to witness when the foals are young and sleeping often, and when we're out checking on them all through the days. I haven't heard it in a while. I bet it'd be tough to catch on video without a LOT of time and patience.

I've seen Willow do it too. She did the low deep knicker where their lips vibrate too and her legs where going. Awfully adorable.

It is so sweet to listen and watch hen they do that. I have a little premmie colt that is very into "talking" and running in his sleep. I swear I saw him smile

My little colt does that too. It is so adorable! His legs get going and then that little whinny and he smiles too and sticks out his tongue. lol. I wish I could get it on camera. I love my little Spiderman!!
