:new_shocked: WOW was I shocked. Used to pay $20 for a trim. Moved the midwest, had the farrier out yesterday and paid $27 per. Just seems like a LOT of money to charge for those tiny little hooves.

I live in Cen TX, for big horses I pay $45 for shoes, $35 trim and $15 for trimming the mini. I actually wonder when he will be going up since fuel is SO much higher now.

I have a guy I have used for quite a while that trims for $15. He is quick and good. Which often I have found the 2 do not go hand in hand. He can do about 6 minis and hour which adds up to a pretty good hourly wage. He always will take the time though if I have a special issue.

I guess I should add too that I am quite anal about my horses feet and they get trimmed every 4-5 weeks depending on the time of year so it makes it easy for him to trim quickly. He also will stop by when we have babies and trim them as often as I feel they need it.

If he had to trim 3/4 of an inch off and rebalance feet everytime he came he may charge more, I dont know, but I would expect to pay more if that were the case.

I used to pay $15 for a trimm tears ago for my big horses. I now pay $35 per mini for a trim. I live in Massachusetts. I think one of the reasons for a higher price on minis is most farriers will get on there hands and knees to do a trim.

Just had my 4 done yesterday and happily pay $20 per horse, feed her and her daughter, and have kept them over nite and would again anytime. She is kind and patient with each horse, understands each personality and copes with each. They were So good yesterday and I was concerned as Aidan is here, but he slept through 3 1/2 and I felt no fear leaving Thera in her capable hands. I would pay whatever it took for that kind of care and expertise.

I am on the NY/Pa border and Linda comes clear from New Hampshire! $20 is a bargain to me.

Lucky, here, and I have a wonderful Journeyman Farrier much like Annette's (hhpminis) in that he works fairly quickly though he and I have a great time visiting so it tends to take longer due to our chatting, and he knows what he's doing, is vet recommended, and charges $12 ea. per trim.

He stops in as often as I need him to for baby issues (I try to trim them about once a month when they're younger than 6 mo., and often I trim them within a week or two of their birth, or rather he does, and this is often a "freebie").

Anyway, to me, he is worth more than he charges, but so far, he has not raised his prices.

Hopefully your new farrier is worth the cost.

I have a temporary, new farrier and he charges $30 per trim doesn't matter the size of the horse and he was worth every penny. Unfortunately, he'll only be here til the end of summer.

The other farrier in the area is very hard to get ahold of, but only charges $20 per trim; he does a decent job.

I think I'm going to have to learn how to do my own.
