I would have preferred to do this last week but a ) the rain and cold kept that from being possible and b ) I procrastinated sending out my blades for sharpening so had nothing to clip with!

Our first show is next Sunday so I was out of time. Today was the day or we weren't going to be ready. I'm really proud of how well she behaved and how well I managed to not butcher her too much this year. I plan to go back over her with a #15 blade by Wed/Thursday. This clipping was done with a combination of #10 blades. 1 wide and two normal width....swapping out as they would get hot. Because of the weather, I had to do this without bathing. I know that's not optimal. Now to watch the weather gauge to see when and if she's going to need a blanket (likely when, not if).

We also have some work to do on her face but we'll work on that again mid week as well. I wish she'd remain gray and dappled. She is my absolute favorite to "unwrap" each year.

She came out of the winter nicer than I hoped. She could still use some tightening up but overall, I think she's in great shape. We still have work to do to her mane and forelock. When the hair grows back, the dapple gray look will go away and she'll look like this again:

Nice job-she looks beautiful.I have a mare who is similar in color and I was told she is a silver bay.I always called her chestnut but wondered why many of her foials were black.Whatever color she is she looks really great-you did a nice job.

Thanks Bevann....we have her listed on her AMHR papers as silver bay. When we first got her at 5 months, I was over the moon to see the silver/gray in her mane and at her skin.

How pretty she looks! I have got to clip mine I guess. No plans to show, but I think he will look so much better, and feel alot cooler too. What #blade did you use?

3bays: I used #10 blades. I have one wide one that I like to use on the body and then two "normal" width ones for everywhere else. I'm going to go back over her again tomorrow night. I was going to buy a 15 blade but I'm still thinking about that.

For my 3 mostly white girls (who are not showing), I do plan to get a #7 or a #5 so they don't get such a close cut that their pink skin is as exposed. I could just let them shed out and may do that yet, but I do like seeing them clipped and cleaned up. They're easier to groom too. At least for me
