I JUST HEARD FROM MY HUSBAND AGAIN TONIGHT. HE WORKS IN THE GULF OF MEXICO ON A OIL RIG. HE BELIEVES THE NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION AND REFINERY OUTPUT DOWN THERE WERE HIT ALOT HARDER THEN PEOPLE KNOW.

I JUST HEARD ON THE NEWS 40% OF THE REFINERY'S ARE DOWN.

I DONT WANT TO TAKE AWAY ANY ATTENTION FROM THE HORRIBLE , HORRIBLE SITUATIONS PEOPLE ARE FACING IN NEW ORLEANS, MISSISSIPPI AND THE OTHER PLACES, BUT WAS JUST CURIOUS IF THE GAS AND OIL SITUATION WILL POSSIBLY CAUSE PEOPLE TO RETHINK TRAVELING TO NATIONALS.???

I WAS THINKING OF GOING A DAY EARLIER THEN ERICA AND MY HUSBAND (MICKIE) AND SET UP THINGS, THEN MICKIE AND ERICA COULD COME WHEN SHE GOT OUT OF CLASS WITH THE HORSES. NOW I AM THINKING WE WILL JUST TAKE ONE TRUCK AND COME TOGETHER. I JUST HOPE WHEN WE GET THERE WE WILL BE ABLE TO GET GAS. A TOWN ABOUT 30 MILES AWAY FROM HERE HAD "NO GAS" YESTERDAY AT ALL. OF COURSE HERE, LIKE EVERYWHERE, GAS KEEPS RISING.

MY HUSBAND IS "SUPPOSE" TO BE HOME TUESDAY, BEFORE WE LEAVE ON FRIDAY. I HOPE HE IS ABLE TO GET OFF THE RIG AND JOIN US, BUT THERE ARE MEN THAT WERE SUPPOSE TO COME BACK TO THE RIG YESTERDAY THAT HAVE NOT MADE IT BACK. ALOT LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS AND MISSISSIPPI. I PRAY THEY AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE OK.

HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT NATIONALS.

Okay - gas prices here are 3.00+ and that's at the stations that HAVE gas. They are rationing fuel and most of the pumps are empty.

We're in a panic and I feel that Nationals should take into consideration that ALOT of the smaller farms will probably cancel because of the cost to get there. Don't you feel that they should postpone Nationals?

I realize (boy do I realize) the time that has been put into the preparations for this event...the scheduling...the ability to get the facility....but I am concerned that alot of people are NOT going to go and that only the people that live in that area, or that can afford to go will be there.

I talked to my trainers today and one of them told me that the truck is fueled but will only get us 1/4 of the way.....we're still undecided at this point if we're going to chance it.

I'd love to hear your opinions on this.....

according to CNN some of the refinerys are back up and running (atleast partially) and the pipeline supplying the eastern portion if the country is now running and should be back up to about 65% of capacity by the start of the weekend.

Carry lots of Gerry Cans for the places that allow you to fill em' Best of luck to all travelling

I do think in a few days time the gas issues at least while still expensive the amount available will be a bit better.

I dont see them canceling Nationals or postponing it. Even after 9-11 they both still went on.

Linda, just tell your husband to stay safe. His job has to be very demanding and stressful....especially right now with the huricane destruction.

Side note....please becareful carrying cans of gas on a trip. Gasoline is HIGHLY flammable! If there were ever an accident.... you, your vehicle and horses could be burned. As always when traveling, think safety first! Personally I wouldn't risk carrying a can of gas on a long trip......if you live a distance from your destination point, the cans of gas won't get you to or from completely so the safety RISKS far out weigh the gains. Just my thoughts....we want you all to have a safe trip!

Linda , thank you for giving us the report from your husband. People do need to take in consideration the seriousness of the crippled production of gas. With 40% of the refinerys down this can create a shortage of gas. That gas is needed so badly for transporting needed goods across the country that people need to be conservative and give up the fun plans that will use a lot of gas at this time. Know it spoils a lot of peoples plans for Nationals but we have to consider how lucky we are in comparison to those in the hard hit areas. Besides who wants to get somewhere and then not be able to get back because the pumps are empty. Hope it all works out for your family ...good luck, Mary

I will be going to World as planned this year. Remains to be seen what fuel prices will do to our show schedule next year.

Unfortunately I'm not going to Nationals this year.... but not because of gas prices. But I'm seriously considering not going to my last show because of the gas prices. We have prebought 3000 gallons of oil @ 1.89 for the heating season that hopefully will heat our house and business for the season. I feel bad for people who can't afford to do this as prices are skyrocketing... heating season will be tough for alot of people.

WE TOO ARE STILL GOING TO NATIONALS. I JUST HOPE PEOPLE FROM LONG DISTANCES ARE STILL ABLE TO ATTEND. I KNOW ALREADY SENDING IN YOUR MONEY IN FOR NATIONALS WOULD BE A BIG LOSS.

IT IS "GUT RENCHING" WATCHING ALL OF THIS ON TV. ITS JUST DEVESTATING WHAT THE RESIDENTS OF NEW ORLEANS AND MISSISSIPPI ARE HAVING TO GO THROUGH.

RUSS DOES HAVE A POINT, PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE HAULING GAS CANS WITH YOU.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR TRAVELS, AND HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT NATIONALS.

We are coming from North Carolina if we are pretty sure we can find gas on the way out. However at the cost we will be hungry. We may need a PB&J sandwitch from some of you more local to the show.

Linda, my step son called from Florida and he can't find a gas station open anywhere. Now, the gas pumps are closeing all over Georga where Jerry is working this week.

I've filled both tanks in my truck and Jerry's van, stock piled gas in containers in the garage and even filled up my little mower and garden tractor because I hear on the local news that gas stations may close abruptly without any notice at any time.

Michael's race trace where he races has been closed until further notice too.

I'm terribly concerned for anyone at this point venturing out of thier area especially hauling horses around right now in fear they may find themselves stranded.

Just be careful, keep your radio on and stay safe.

CNN is reporting that one of the pipelines effected (out of 2) will be up and running tonight by midnight which should be a HUGE help in getting more gas to the south east areas might not being prices down but should sure get it there anyway

Living in an area where there are two very large refineries has taught us that even though they are producing, doesn't mean there is a good supply. I just hope people are cautious in their venturing out because not only is it a waste to travel, at this time if not really necessary but also very exspensive. The fuel is going to be badly needed to transport goods across the country that people really need. Please keep this in mind. Mary

Are you trying to say that we should all not go to Nationals, to conserve fuel???

Sorry, but I've been planning this trip for a full year (since last year's Nationals) and I'm GOING.

BTW, friends of mine owns a trucking company and they say that their drivers have not come across ANY fuel shortages or rationing, in their coast to coast trips.

It's not so much the price as the availabilty that is scaring the crap outta me. Big diesel truck..big tank but not big enough to get me there (1440 MILES)!!!Started calling around to get a "slip tank" installed behind the cab between cab and gooseneck..takes 2 weeks to come in..RATS..they are DOT saftied and come in 100 gallons or less. Maybe that is a plan for some of you? Not for me however..can't find one in time!! So jerry can city for me (thank heavens diesel is NOT as flammable but it will be tied in the cab of the truck..not the trailer!)

Kim

(Rolling pennies for the gas $$ now!!!)

If anyone from Florida is still coming to either National show and has a spare stall on the way home, I have a chance for you to share some of those terrible gasoline prices. I have a lady who wants to buy a mare from me but needs a ride for her. I can get her to either National show, and the lady will pay her share of the gas.

Let me know, and I'll forward your info to her.

Both my boys have gas saver small cars. Jerry just lowered the boom and told me to use them and park my truck.
