I have been breeding miniatures for about 6 years, and so far no problem with dwarfism. My smallest foal was 17 inches at birth. HIs mother was 27 inches and father was 34 inches. He grew up to be 27 inches. I have never had any signs of dwarfism, but it is possible. We will just have to wait and see. In the past, I used to breed Belgium horses. I went from one extreme to the other. Thanks for your welcome and info.

And I do apoligize if I overstep my boundries, but want you to know about this asap as it is very important. But have you ever heard of dwarfism in miniatures? Just from the pics, it dose seem like one of your beautiful little mares may carry the gene, (Suger). If your not aware of it, there are lots of good info here about that too just incase you want to look into that as well.

Just so you don't feel left out, I also thought that mare looked ahem....dwarfy. I just didn't have the courage to speak up.

Thanks for the comment. We are researching dwarfism and appreciate any help you can be. Thank you very much and have a good day.

You can look on my website. I have horses that I own that are listed as carriers and I even have an essay that I did for FFA over dwarfism.

You're welcome to look at it.

Personally, I believe your mare resembles an achondroplastic dwarf, much like the one pictured below.

I have owned two of these (both foals with contracted tendons)

They appear to have VERY long bodies, short legs, tiny ears, and a perfect bite. Their legs may also be contracted as well.

This is just MY personal opinion. It may be wrong, and you don't have to agree with me.

Beautiful horses and welcome! I do hope you stick around

Hi and welcome to the forum! If you have any questions they'll certainly have answers here!

Do you clip in the spring or let your minis shed out naturally? I'd love to see a short coat/summer coat picture of your stallion. There's always so much change between a winter yak and a clipped/summer coat mini! Your mare Fancy is beautiful! And I love the color and markings on Maybelle

I do not clip my horses. I let them shed naturally and use the curry comb a whole lot. I will post pics when they shed off and have their babies. These pics are of Fancy and her baby, Woody, who we sold. Maybelle is Pearl's(the white mare) baby. Thanks for your comments. Have a nice day.
