Global warming?

What worries me is the lack of moisture, if we don't have a winter, and don't get snow, well then you know what will happen to the pastures.................no grass..............no grass=no hay...........

It is pretty scary for people that depend on their own pastures to produce the hay they need for their livestock. Last year was bad, on a pasture I have that the pond is spring fed, was bone dry this year, and I had to haul water..........so is it going to just keep getting worse? If so then my plans with my animals will have to change, as it has with most of the farmers & ranchers in this area, who have sold out livestock due to lack of feed.

It's kind of scarey is'nt it? But man I have to say we sure are enjoying this mild winter....it's not freakishly warm...but definitely comfortable. We've been in the upper 40's to mid 60's for a while now...usually we would be in a deep freeze by now...20 degrees and under. Yesterday we got up to 72 pleasant degrees!! It felt like April. However, I keep my antennas up...the boys still have their winter coats on, and everytime I see one laying down, I run out and check up on them. Yesterday especially....now they've gotten to a point when they see come running out to them, they stay put...so here I am running my hands all up and down into their coats, checking for sweating, pale gums, and any kind of distress...and they're just laying there with their bored looks probably thinking "Oh geez...here we go again"!!

: I've had my little guy colic on me a few times when the weather was a wee bit too warm in the winter time...so I don't take anything for granted anymore.

Hey if we can just get past Feb. with a mild winter...we'll be on the home stretch for spring....that would be cool!!! :aktion033:

Here on Cape Cod we've had 2 quick, light, snowfalls. We're talking, 5 minutes of half-melted snow falling on your head. We haven't had much hot weather, but it hasn't been too cold, either. Most days temps are in the 40's or 50's. But we have been getting scads of rain. Melted snow, I guess.

Somehow, people think the same about weather that they do about how they look. If it's cold, they wish it was warm and vice verca. If they have curly hair, they wish it was straight and vice verca.

: We're all crazy.

The horses are happy as hogs though. They could roll around in the mud for hours, and they do. :risa_suelos: Lyric, our grey (almost white) mare, is DARK brown. :new_shocked: :new_shocked:

I agree, it'll get pretty bad for hay pretty soon. That is, if it keeps warming up at this rate.

I wish we had nice weather... we have been nothing but rain, rain and more rain in upstate NY...I am so tired of the mud! Can't remember a January where it has been near 60 and I have not worn a winter coat, hat or gloves yet!

My oldest son bought his season pass to Bristol Mountain and went every day until the snow trail was no more. :new_shocked:

At the Retsof salt mine, miners have been laid off due to lack of need for the salt...

Please send snow and cold... my crocuses and irises are coming up and it is way too early... I am waiting to hear the spring peepers any day....
