Well personally I dont see a problem with it.

There was just a artical at work of a 8 year old girl I beleive it was that shot and killed a black bear while hunting.

They are still required to past the same hunting test as others have to, and have to have the classes and show that they can properly handle a gun.

I think there are some very young hunters out there who were raised up right by there family about guns and know what they are doing.

I think if they can display and show that they can control and handle a gun properly, have been through hunters safty and past the test then they should be allowed to.

THey more then likely will always be with there parents anyway.

I heard this too

I have an 8 yr old and a 12 yr old. I think it is insane and my children are mature for their age. My 12 yr old hunted this year with my husband right next to him and I was soooo nervous the whole time. And my 8 yr old, even tho he's mature for his age, is not ready. My husband takes them both target practicing. They know to respect what they are doing. There is so much to hunting other than carrying a gun and shooting a deer. What scares me most is knowing what is behind the target you are aiming at. Even with an adult present I'm not for this at all. Grown men shoot each other accidentally and after that shooting in Sawyer county (right next to our county) you never know what crazys are out there. As it is I hate hunting season--keep the animals inside and I don't go out unless I have to. I can't believe anyone would even consider this.

I agree, this is just plain nuts to allow a 8 yr old to hunt, if they do pass the law! Even mature 8 yr olds have there moments.

A friend of ours teaches the hunting course and he thinks this is about as stupid as can be, but then again..its the good old Wisconsin DNR. There probably only thinking it will help gun license sales because they have been way down for the past few years

.Hmmm, wonder why??? Corinne

Well I guess it depends.......in WA the kids couldn't take hunters ed until they were 11 and rarely did they pass 11 yr olds so they could if they passed hunt at 12 and then they had to be accompanied by an adult until they were 16........

ID they can take hunters ed at 10 buy a license and if they have a license they can hunt....no adult needed

this to me is just plain stupid......and yes is kinda freaked me out the first hunting season to see "gangs" of camo clad pre-teen and teens wander around with shotguns

of course around here you see people pulled off the road anywhere there is an embankment blasting shots off at cans and stuff...you know 40-50 feet from the highway

If the family had no other way to get meat for the table that would be one thing.

I have to deal with enough adult ****** now that shoot at anything that moves.

Few weeks ago I was out and had bullets ripping through my woods towards my horses,, the ones with Orange Vest and bells on. I have been shot at before.. and knew what was going on. The horses where smart enough to gallop up to the house quickly.

I started bellowing and the shooting stopped.

Am sorry,, the last thing I would want to see is younger hunters in my area.

When we first moved to WA from NH. We were just starting to drive under a over pass,, Hubby was driving. I thank the Heavens the Teenage boy we saw with a rifle that shot at our car right at my hubbys heart.. was only a beebee rifle. If it was a real rifle my husband would of been shot dead driving his family in the car.

The Police never found that kid,, the windshield caught the Beebee. Police said we were really lucky.

Needless to say we were not impressed with the west coast at the time.

I know not all kids are bad, but kids are kids and I don't want to be on the other end of a kid holding a rifle.
