Some of you know that we have been having dog problems again. Since October 30 we have had five little mares attacked in our back pasture. Each one was a different night which led us to believe that it was the act of a single dog. None of the mares were killed, but we had to put one of them down because of the severity of her injuries.
We had the Animal Control officers out, as well as the state/county coyote trapper. The trapper said from the way that the mares were attacked that he thought that it was the work of a blue heeler dog. All have patrolled and set traps to no avail. After the third attack we started bringing the herd, all 146 of them, to the front pasture for the night. However when they are called it is almost impossible to count them and three times we have left a few horses in the pasture. Two of the times, the dog attacked one of the "stragglers."
Tonight when Mike brought up the horses, he thought that he saw a couple at the back of the pasture. When he was back there, he saw a blue heeler cross dog near them. He had his gun and luckily killed the dog, which had a tag on it.
We were so thrilled because we leave next week for over two weeks and were not looking forward to the stress of worrying about the safety of the horses while we were away.
Sorry this is so long, but wanted to share the good news.
