2008 Model, refurbishing underway, not well-maintained by previous owner but all parts still in working order, just needs a little TLC and will work like a charm!

Meet Dobby (prounced like Bobby). She was at a kill shelter about an hour and a half from my home. She's been doing nothing but having litter after litter in her short life but now she's been spayed and is ready to keep the riff-raff away from my farm. I visited her on Friday, along with a friend of mine who trained guard/attack dogs for the military for many years. She now breeds/handles Havanese (they actually are the owners of "Buster" and if you're into Havanese, you know who Buster is lol) and is just really, really good with reading dogs. She worked with Dobby and then declared her "the one" after we'd looked at others the previous day. I picked her up today and after only a few hours with me she's been a DREAM!

Already alerting to cars going up the street, picking up on the cues from my other dogs about what is normal, what isn't. She's obviously had some type of obedience because she knows "down" and "here" and "no" and is catching on to not jumping very quickly. She and my LGD growled at each other through the fence when they very first met and now they are fine together. However, even with all seeming like perfection, I am keeping a very close eye on her and making sure I'm not putting her in a position to cause troube with any of the other animals. I'm not feeding any of them together, etc. just to be safe for now. But honestly, she seems like a great dog and already is looking to me for guidance. But when my LGD barks, she'll run and stand in front of me and look in the direction of the commotion. I think she's going to be perfect!!! She will look GREAT laying on my front porch in the evenings as everyone drives by on their way home.

I'll be making sure she's clearly on display for all to see!

Without further delay, here is Dobby this afternoon in my backyard. 80lbs of muscle.

Good heavens she's adorable! What a great porch decoration and just what you need.

Now the dumb question: Why is Dobby pronounced Bobby??? I'm not getting that.

Thanks Marty!

She's named after a character I think is cute from one of the Harry Potter books/movies....Dobby, the faithful servant to the Malfoy family - until he's freed by Harry. Just a cute gnome type character.

I do love Rotties, but you have to be very careful...don't let her think for one SECOND that she is dominant over you.

I was just at the Vet's where a guy came in with one, beautiful dog, acted very friendly, the guy let him come over to me, and immediately after sniffing my pants at the knee, the dog snarled, and lunged at me...scared both the owner and myself. (I didn't have my dog with me, so it wasn't my dog he was after; so that was no excuse.) Let's say that it didn't take long for them to bring a muzzle out and have the owner put it on him before someone else came in. I was there when they weighed him...and at 89 pounds, it was a lot of dog to jump unsuspectingly at someone with no provocation.

Good Luck with Dobby...hope she works out well for you and with your other critters. marty, I believe Parmela meant it rhymes with Bobby, not pronounced exactly like it.

She's beautiful Parmela!

I LOVE the Harry Potter stuff! It always cracked me up that they named the house elf Dobby, that was the name my grandma had for going #2 LOL

I think the name for her is cute and will be what any burgler will DO in his pants when he comes across her!

Yup, in the movie, Dobby is pronounced Dobby like Mona says

Beautiful Rottie. Hope it helps and you need to be in charge with that particular breed of dog. They are a great dog but need a firm hand. P.S. I personally would have a handy Taurus 24/7 -with a pretty pink grip as a backup. Nice light weight compact pistol that even my weak hands can use.

I hope she works out ok......... and watch her closely around your livestock if she is not already used to that kind of stuff!! Yes, my friend almost had her face removed by one of these when she merely knocked on the front door and it was answered- and she knew the people and the dog. The dog is actually no longer with us.... she attacked a couple of other people and was just too overly eager to do so. Be careful and I hope your new alarm system works well!!

Yes, I mean RHYMES with Bobby!

I'm such a dork sometimes!!!

Thank you all for the advice. I do know to be in charge with her and to keep my guard up, but I appreciate the reminders just the same!

I actually looked at the breed right after my divorce because my hubby got Barney, a rott/shepard mix, and I wanted something that looked like him to replace him. There was not ONE ounce of Barney's 110lb frame that was vicious, but nobody knew that by looking at him. At that time, all I could find were ones that I feared I couldn't handle. They were very dominant and I'm not by nature that way. So when I started this search again I knew I had to change and I also had to find just the right one. I did take my friend Michele with me and she blessed this particular dog but she had vetoed others in the past saying nope, you can't handle this dog, etc.

Day Two has gone very well. She spent the day at my vet while I was at work. Just didn't want to leave her home alone just yet. I'm on vacation now until next Tuesday so I feel like I'll have time to know more about her by then. But last night when it was time for bed I took Oscar and Darcy back to the bedroom with me and I stopped Dobby at the hallway and said a firm "no" and she NEVER came down the hallway all night! She slept in the living room, didn't potty in the house, didn't tear anything up, nothing. I did notice that my barn shoes were moved around, but I couldn't find any bite marks on them. I was VERY impressed for a new dog, first night.

Oh she is beautiful! One of my good friends who used to have minis had a rottweiler that she bought when she divorced 15 years ago. The dog was 100% devoted to her-I loved watching the two together. But, my friend also never once let me touch her. She was very confident of her when it was just the two of them, but never when someone else was there. If you bond with your Dobby she will be the best 'uninvited guest' removal system you'll ever have! P.s.-my friend had no problems with her Rot and her livestock, but she kept the dog next to her at all times.

Congrats again on a very beautiful new alarm system!

We had a Rotty along time ago. Best family dog we've ever had. My brother brought him home as a pup. He was such a good boy. The property had 3 houses on it, one my brother lived in, one mine & the other our grandparents lived in. He patroled the whole property, never left it. There was no one that got out of there car when they pulled up. If a stranger showed up he would sit right beside us & just stare at them. Never did anything or had to. Just his presence was good enough. Felt very safe with him around, but also didn't worry about him doing anything. He was smart & devoted to his people.

Hope she works out for you.

Dobby reminds me so much of my late Ebony.

I got Ebony as a 3 month old puppy...she was registered, purebreed Rottie.....and I can say without a doubt, she was the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of having. Ebony would lick you to death, she never once tried to bite anyone, or anything....she loved all of my family she spent months with my parents when I moved to WA and she was terrific for them and she was awesome when she moved up to WA and she loved me and my husband. I think people were scared of her because she was big and dark colored and had the big German head .....but she honestly was the sweetest dog. Yes, she would bark if someone came that we didn't know, but we never had a problem with anyone every coming on the property that was not invited. She was also excellent with my nieces and nephews, they could hang all over her and she could care less. The only odd thing about Ebony is that she had several "false pregancies"...I never once bred her and no dog could get to her to breed her. The vet said it is more common occurance than people realize. I lost her to a stroke or aneurisym when she was 8......and I still miss her to this day.

Good luck with Dobby, she is just gorgeous and I can see you already know that they are smart and will listen when told to do something. Very loyal and she will protect you.....which will help you sleep better at night.

I wanted a Rottie for years but found my little mutt baby instead. Good luck with her Parmela, she's wonderful! Thanks for saving her life too!!!

Thank you everyone!

She's been here since Monday afternoon and all has been better than I could have ever hoped for!

She's obviously extremely smart and is so darn willing to learn. She practically says "tell me what you want and I'll do it."

I took her to my vet to board on Tuesday while I was at work but I've been on vacation since so I've been home with her. I left her with my chi and IG for a couple of hour last night and all was well. My chi, who weighs 5lbs, has totally got her buffaloed! She doesn't even look him in the eye anymore!

I'm still feeding them apart but I've played with taking her food away and with taking a treat out of her mouth and there have been no signs of aggression at all. Still not letting my guard down, but I really could not has asked for more. And to think she was nearing "her time" at the kill shelter! Just unimaginable.

BTW, when she barks, the walls shake!

I LOVE it! NOBODY is going to come anywhere near her I can guarantee it.
