What's the difference between the terms "war bridle" and "cowboy halter"? I'm not quite understanding the difference and I KNOW someone here will know!!!

Not sure about the "Cowboy" bridle, but a "War" bridle was native American and a loop tied around the lower jaw, attached to a long looped rein.

Not familiar with "cowboy bridle", but my understanding of a war bridle has always been a rope with a loop in the end, the loop either around the horses nose or in the mouth with the length of it run over the poll and back down (where a bridle would be). It slides with pressure, making it potentially very severe with lots of poll pressure.

It can be an effective training tool in the right hands but not for casual use.

Thanks, guys - they do sounds like they're the same thing, just different terms.
