I would really love a Jerald but the more I do the math, the more I can't afford one unless I sell my Bellcrown and use a Jerald with wooden wheels for all of my events, AMHR and ADS alike. And since I'm a bit attached to my new custom Bellcrown that leaves me looking at a cheaper style of show cart!

Has anyone bought the one Prime Design sells? What was your opinion of it? The price sure can't be beat at $1,350 including shipping anywhere in the lower 48, a quilted cover, roadster stirrups, patent basket, wingback velvet seat, custom colors/stain, etc. etc.!

How was the balance? How long did it take to get it? Workmanship?

Thanks!

Leia

My Mom has one and we love it! It's been a wonderful little cart. One of the main differences between it and the Jerald is that it is a little narrower and A LOT lighter. The Jeralds that I have ridden in and used have been very heavy. But the cart from Prime Design has been easy for horses from 31" up to 37" to pull. It's very balanced and the workmanship is beautiful! Also it was a very easy cart to put together. There wasn't one piece that didn't quite fit together. I can't say that about every cart I've put together! In fact this is the ONLY one that went together without a problem. The quilted cover is very nice as well and a real perk!

Here it is! My Mom and her show mare, Sky

Forgot to say how long... My friend ordered one not too long ago and they told her 6-7 weeks. I think it's due to arrive this week!

Uw, thank you! How tall is Sky for size comparison? And would you say the shafts are wide enough to allow the horse to move its hips over and bend? Does it come with shaft stops or brass shaft tips? Whip socket? Thanks!

Leia,

Just for thinking purposes; we just returned from a HUGE "R" show this weekend (Oregon Gold) where Ron competed in country pleasure classes in his new Pacific Smart Cart with the patent dash. He did very well as the only "different" turnout in those classes. One judge even commented positively on the overall impression of horse to cart to driver. While Jerald's (or Jerald look-alikes) seem to be the norm for the "A" shows, I think your Bellcrown would be accepted in the AMHR shows as a country pleasure turnout. Certainly it should do well in obstacle driving as I think the wheel width is less than the Jerald. Just food for thought...

Leia, I agree with Dorothy's opinion. Your Bellcrown is BEAUTIFUL, and with the picnic basket and dash it is more than acceptable for country pleasure. You have nothing to hide with that sweet little cart! It looks fabulous! Ron looked terrific with Buddy and his new Pacific, and my opinion is that it looked very appropriate. He placed very well in the class!

I have two from them. They are lighter than the Jerald and easier for me to haul by myself. Balance is great, easy off basket for roadster or practicing. If she does not have one on hand though you will be waiting a while this time of year. They are also a little narrower and fit thru stall doors easily.

Thanks everyone for the input. (Hey Countryrose, will anyone be using your carts for the country pleasure under classes at Pacific Crown?

: ) I love my Bellcrown and do think it's a beautiful cart, but I wouldn't want to use it without my Freedom Collar and breeching or a neck collar. Kody's neck is just too low-set to make pulling comfortable with a regular breastcollar and low draft in deep footing.

I'm really glad to hear that Ron did well though! Buddy is a fine competitor.

Sky is 36.5" in that photo, I think she may have grown though

Here is a photo of a 31" stallion pulling it...

And here is another picture of a 35" stallion pulling the cart...

I would say that it would be wide enough for Kody to move his hips over. I don't think there is a cart wide enough for Sky to move her big load over at this moment in time

: She wintered very well

The shafts have brass tips and I think there are shaft stops, I'll go see when I take my oldest to school this morning... And it doesn't come with a whip holder, but you can get one for it! My cart has one and I never use it as my whip is always in my hand  But I guess it's there if I ever do need it!

I hope this helps!! Let me know what you decide to do

Edited to add: it doesn't have shaft stops. I went out and looked. But the end of the shafts is all patent leather, so that helps with the sliding...

I don't have one of the carts but I wanted to say what nice driving pictures people have posted :bgrin

Chamomile, you're the greatest! Thanks for all the pictures. I called PD yesterday and got no answer; I figured they must have been driving back from the Oregon Gold show. But after reading this thread this morning I couldn't stand it anymore and called them again just a few minutes ago, reached them, and BOUGHT A SHOW CART! :new_shocked: :new_shocked: :new_shocked:

Oh my God.

I can't believe I just did that, but it seemed like it was meant to be because she had two black-and-gold show carts IN STOCK that were literally about to ship from the factory and were just what I wanted. She's going to call and change the address and one will be shipped to my house in the next few days so I'll have it in time for my first show! :risa8: :new_multi: :488: :cheeky-smiley-006:

Holy Moly. No more easy entry. No more home-made metal cart with odd seat back. A real, honest-to-goodness show cart for Kody and I. Woohoo! Now I need to go buy something sequiny. LOL

Leia

Edited to add: One more question. Are those wheels pictured 20" or 24"?

The wheels are 24", since we mostly drive "B's" around here :bgrin
