Has anyone sold dental gold?

I don't know, my Mom kept hers, and some gold pins my Dad had been given as service awards over the years, and the little diamonds that were in them and had a gold nugget made. One of my most prized possessions.

I found some places online that buy crowns. I'd be too embarrassed to take it to the jeweler. I wonder how much gold is actually on a crown? I thought of trying to melt it off myself, as I believe it has a fairly low melting point. Probably just a drop or two. But online places wouldn't offer the service if it were not lucrative for them, would they?

You might ask a reputable and non-greedy dentist about buying it.

Morticians have been known to steal them, so there is definitely some value in them. The dentist my husband used to work for would ask customers that accidentally swallowed one while he was trying to seat it to sift through their poop and bring the tooth back to the office. I would have told doc that he could do the sifting. I fear a rant coming on so nuff said.

That's icky and funny at the same time, Vickie Gee.

A friend of mine does estate clean outs, and she said that they often find dental scrap in houses when they are cleaning. She said that depending upon the size (one to four grams) and the quality of the metal (10k to 22k gold or alloy) they can range from $40 to $100. It depends on the going price for gold too. If it is just sitting in a drawer, and you aren't using it why not sell it? You would be surprised at how many people sell them. My friend told me that at first she felt weird bringing them to the jewelry exchange but the guy told her that he gets people in there all the time. He said that as people get dental work replaced, they have no use for the old stuff, so they turn it in for a little money.
