We were returning from our walk this evening with Buddy, our rat terrier, and the horses. Fed the horses and were heading to the house when we saw Buddy trotting up the driveway with a trophy. He had caught a gopher. He is always interested in those holes on the roadside, but I didn't know a dog could catch one.

We made a fuss and told him he was a good dog, but he acted like it was just normal business.

I am a little concerned about fleas, so I will keep an eye on him. After all, he's a house dog...

Good Buddy!

Actually, he was doing what his breed was bred to do....go after rodents in their burrows!

Humans can catch gophers too. Lol. We had a pet gopher for almost three years, her name was Gismo. They are really sweet animals, it's a shame they do so much damage to yards.

Yes, I suppose it all depends on what one has for a pet. I can see how a gopher might be a pet. I knew some folks who had a boa constrictor. I was buying hamsters for pets, and they were buying them to feed their snake. It's a jungle out there.

I suppose some folks don't have rat terriers for pets--they have them for tools. I've already had someone with a serious gopher problem asking to borrow Buddy. The gophers in their yard chewed up the plumbing under their house slab and the underground electrical wiring. They had to jack hammer up the floor in their bathroom to fix the plumbing. That's how they found out it was the gophers. They thought the gophers were just a nuisance making mounds in the lawn.

Wow, Buddy made quite a haul!!! Sometimes our dogs get shrews or voles (I don't actually know what they are). I think the big dogs must kill them and then the little dogs find them. OMG, you should hear me screaming at them when I see they have one and are aiming to bring it in the house. They totally creep me out and I don't allow any dog kisses after such a trophy has been displayed to me.

My min pin will go after moles/voles and has actually caught two mice in the house!

She doesn't eat them but, she sure kills them quickly. What a panic that mouse hunt was -- saw it day one, on day three she had it's path calculated and when the rascal went under/behind a table, she dove under and came out with it

Two days later, she brought me another. That was that!

Now, flies are her challenge. Yep, she's grabbed a couple mid air. The terrier types are very talented
