Well, on a whim we decided to. My kids are 4 and 2. My son, the 4 year old, had no credit, as we expected. However, my daughter who is only 2 had some things on her credit report. Now she has fraud alert on there and we have fixed things. I am glad we checked.

Kids are the fastest growing age group for identity theft, pretty scary. As if as parents we did not have enough to worry about. Please think about checking your kids. www.anualcreditrepert.com gives everyone one free yearly credit report and they have the information on the website to check your kids.

It's a great tip. However, I went to the website and it rejected it because our son was under 18 years of age... Do you have another link??

unfortunately they mixed mine and my daughters up. hers showed she owned a house with a big mortgage at 16 LOL took forever but we finally straightened it out

Besides the credit thing, my sister and I both had rather large savings accounts in our names. These accounts werent ours, were never meant to be, they were set up by a family member to hide money in and when it came time for college, neither of us could get grants ( even though parents were blue collar workers) because of this stash. Sad when you cant trust family

You can not get the kids credit from the website, you need to mail in all the stuff. The information is on the site. You need to prove you are the guardian. Funny thing is it took us a while to prove we were Sarah's gardian, now we know why! I believe we needed a copy of birth cert., drivers license. ss cards. We mailed it all be registered mail.

Leeana, You probably should not have credit, that is why we check. Someone else could be using your name and information, then when you go to get credit, it is too late, you are already in debt and your credit is ruined.
