I had a really bad night last night and this morning I was still not feeling good about anything. I went out to feed and was greeted by whinnys from the ones that never do that. I also was greeted by kisses and by each horse wanting to be near me.

I felt a lot better after the hugs and kisses from each of them. There was no bickering among themselves at all this morning. My little Legacy even left her feed to come get in my lap and give me kisses.

It never ceases to amaze me how these little guys can always tell when you really need them.

Yep, all my animals console me when I'm out of sorts in anyway. It's not the only thing that makes them great, of course, but it's high on the list. They never judge my feelings either, which makes their commiseration even better.

Hi Mary

I have always noticed that my horses are in tune with my feelings and so are my dogs.

When I am feeling blue and feel like the world is sitting ontop my shoulders, I spend some quiet time with my horses. They gather around me as close as they can get and every once in a while my little Casey will give me a nudge to make me smile.

Same here - my animals all know when I need "hugs" -- cats, dogs and horses. Even my parrot was in tune --- wish I were a bit more "in tune" with their needs -- need to slow down a bit and pay more attention to them I think. I am concerned with their health and daily care-- and sometimes don't have enough time to just "spend time with them all".

Sorry you were having a bad time - glad you had loving "friends" surrounding you.

Yes, my horses know exactly when I need a hug, when I need some special TLC. And I can ALWAYS count on them to be there for me when I need them!

Sorry you were having a rough day - give your critters big hugs - you'll feel so much better!

I get the most wonderful pet therapy around here...our horses, dogs, and cats are all very perceptive.

With our loss of Hillary, it's very clear that the dogs and cats are mourning her AND being extra attentive to us -- it seems that they want to both comfort and be comforted.

After we buried her, Keith and I went and sat at the "Mingus Cafe" for a little time with our entire animal family. Thelonius, Flash and Mingus all stayed close, but Thelonius was absolutely amazing. He was so sweet and gentle...pushing his muzzle against us, making us laugh at his antics, and giving us his very best horse therapy.

I was reminded of the time we took M and T to a neighborhood parade and festival. In the midst of a swarm of kids crowding in to pet them, Thelonius spotted a young quadraplegic woman in a wheelchair, pulled me over to her, and laid his head in her lap. He definitely picks up on what is going on, gentle soul that he is.
