A lady showed up at our door this evening; she is a new neighbor who lives just down the road and around the corner from us. She's been going around trying to find this little guy's home, hoping that someone in the area has been missing him and would like him back. She's had no luck. Most likely he is one that someone has deliberately brought out here & dumped of, because kittens this age aren't generally into wandering. I estimate him to be a little over 3 months, maybe 3 1/2 months. He's not very big. The lady was hoping that even if he doesn't belong to anyone in the neighborhood that someone would agree to give him a home, because she can't keep him. Her dog doesn't like cats & if she lets the dog out he will kill the kitten.

Mom said no, we couldn't take him, we still have plenty of cats. I said AWWWWWW. So, Mom said it's up to me, if I want to take him, we will take him.

Needless to say, the little guy stayed here when the lady left.

He's a real cute little guy; someone has paid a lot of attention to him, and he sure does love attention. He's also into everything--a real little snoop, and he likes to get on the desk and knock over the flower pots...Mom said she can see why someone got tired of having him around & decided to chuck him out! (Don't get me wrong--my mom does NOT approve of anyone dumping a cat for any reason and it's not something she would ever do. She shares my disgust for people who do that to pets.)

Poor little fellow was very hungry--He scarfed down two small (Fancy Feast) tins of food right away, then about an hour later ate another tub of Whiskas canned food....had a drink of water, a pee in the litter box, a bath and finally now a nap. He's completely happy to be here with people who care for him. Our other cats aren't thrilled with him but mostly they ignore him, so that's all right.

THANK YOU!!!!

Thank you for caring and willing to share your home with him. He is SO cute! If you can't think of another name, my frst thought was 'Chuck.'

Pam

Robin--ou are GOOD! Just last week I was thinking that if (more like WHEN) we get another new male cat we could call him Jasper. I was asking the kitten last night if he would like to be Jasper but we hadn't decided on the name for sure. (The kitten didn't seem to much care what he gets called!) Then you posted that about Jake or Jasper and we said okay, that settles it, he is Jasper! (Couldn't be Jake--a neighbor two doors down has a big dumb dog named Jake!)

Pam--I'd been thinking "Charlie" as another possibility but we very recently had a Charles that we always called Chuckie--a stray that had been living here a few months and suddenly disappeared the end of May. We believe that he was taken by a fox. So, we couldn't have another Charlie or Chuckie just yet.

Little Jasper is eating us out of house & home--he's going to make me overspend my catfood budget this week, that's for sure. He's a bottomless pit. It's too funny--he crouches over his food and as he's munching it down he's also growling and squealing. You would think that one of the other cats must be right there eyeballing his food, but they never are--he's there all by himself. Silly little guy.

He say he's a baby boy.

That name is what came to me the instant I saw his pic. I get flashes from animals like that often.

He's a nice cat! He's enjoying being spoiled by you!

He is very handsome Holly! You are such a softie. I would have done the same thing tho LOL Jasper looks like it fits him.If you get tired of him my Daisy is looking for a new friend to wrestle with.

Good to know Kim, if I come across another one I'll know where to send him! I guess, though, Jasper can stay here for now! He has really perked up. Yesterday & today he's been going full tilt around the house, having a grand old time.

He had a misadventure on the weekend. We got him that Thursday at supper time. Saturday morning he was playing in the porch. At one point he went to the door so Mom opened it to let him look out and he turned & walked away. A little later he disappeared. We assumed he'd crawled in somewhere & went to sleep but when I looked for him I couldn't find him anywhere. I looked outside a few times but saw nothing of him. The day went on & he didn't show up and we finally knew that somehow he had gotten outside. Either he found the cat door down the hall (where he hadn't been up until the point where he disappeared) or else (and this is most likely) one time when Mom stepped out on the deck to look around for one of the other cats Jasper dashed outside. He must have ran out & dived under the truck or under the deck and then who knows what happened. I never thought a kitten his age would slip outside & just take off--I would have expected him to hang around the deck, checking things out & playing a bit--but that kitten was no where in this yard.

I walked up and down the road calling him, I called him from all corners of our property, I called a few neighbors & asked if they had seen him, and if they do please let me know...after dark that night I sneaked through the back yards of a couple neighbors, trying to check & see if he were hiding somewhere around their houses..,.quite a prowler I make!

I didn't find him. I was feeling so bad--poor little kitty was lost with no food and no warm bed--it was cold that night but not horribly cold. I knew he'd be okay outside that night, but I didn't want him staying lost! We have never, ever lost a cat that way before--we've had some taken by wild animals but have never had one just wander away. I went out a few times in the night to call & listen. Sunday morning I went out & walked around the yard, calling some more....hoping he'd hear me and head back this way & eventually find us again. A bit later Mom went out on the deck & heard some little cries. She called & he came running from the round bales that are lined up between the house and the hayshed. I don't know where he spend that 24 hours but boy was he happy to be back with us! When she brought him inside you could just tell that he was happy to be here.

He sure hasn't ventured outside again--he has looked at the cat door a couple times but hasn't tried to go out through it, and he doesn't go anywhere near the door!

In a couple days I will have another rescue to show to you...a critter that is very lucky to be alive and not hurt worse than he is.
