I thought I'd post about this seeing as apparently it's serious and I know a lot of people that have had mono.
Last week my friend's doctor(whom I won't name although she will be switching doctors) discovered my friend(whom we will call Suzie) has strep throat and prescribed penicillin for her. This doctor also knew that from May of 2005 until only just recently Suzie had a very very very serious case of mono. So she took her penicillin and a lot of her body (but mostly her face) broke out in a severe rash. I've never seen such a rash...basically it looked like her face was one big red blister. She also felt quite ill. Suzie's went to the doctor and she said "oh I guess you're allergic to penicillin then" and gave her some antihistamines. Suzie's father told suzies half brother (we'll call him Bob) about this and he FLIPPED OUT. Bob is a very well established heart surgeon that also owns and practises in two different walk in clinics. He said that in medicine it is very clearly pointed out early on that if a person has mono, for about a year afterward they are not to have ANY penicillin because for some reason they react badly with eachother.
Just a heads up incase you've had mono and your doctor is clueless like my friends doctor was.
P.S. Sorry if there's any grammar or spelling mistakes, I'm really quite tired.
