I know I am stupid!!!! To top it off my taxes for the last 4 years was on that computer, and I did not print them. So I have no copies! The shop where I took it to said maybe I can find someone that can get the data, but it will cost big bucks!! That is if they can even get the data!! Does anyone know anything about Norton Goback??? HELP!!!!

I don't know anything about Goback, or how to get your lost info back, but I did have Norton antivirus for the last few years, and when I updated to Norton 2009, my system was completely attacked. I couldn't do hardly anything on my pc anymore, nothing worked right. It wasn't doing it's job, not running scans unless started manually, and it wasn't updating at all. I got a refund, and tried BitDefender, and hated that! It was a total system hog, and wasn't very accurate. I then tried a trial version of AVG Internet Security, and found out that I had 6 Trojan viruses! Neither Norton, or BitDefender picked them up. Luckily, I was able to clear them off of my system, and things seem to be working good now. The only thing I don't like about AVG, is every once in a while, the automatic updating shuts down, and you need to restart your system.

The one thing I learned is that there is no fool proof method of protecting your pc. There are new viruses coming out daily, and you are only safe against the ones your antivirus database is known to protect, which is why it is so important to make sure your updates are being done, and your scans are being run. Also, make a point of deleting your temporary internet files daily, the files that contain tracking cookies.

EDITED TO ADD: AVG can not cure the Trojan virus, it will just detect them to let you know they are there.

I use norton antivirus right now and had to update it because I got attacked by a pop up from a mini horse site I visited. It will cost 100 bucks to have Symantec (the maker of Norton) fix it but I dont feel comfortable allowing them to hack into my computer. Last time I had a virus it cost me about 200 to fix it and get my files copied onto a cd at Best Buy. I am probably going to have to take it there again because of this virus which is a downloader and there are instructions on how to remove it online but I tried and I can't seem to find the actual file containing it but I do know that it came from antivirus2009 which I learned the hard way is a rogue program that tricks people into thinking it is a real protective program. I haven't had any problems with the norton antivirus program though while it was updated my only problem was I procrastinated too long to pay the 50 bucks to update it.

Can't help you with the Norton i'm afraid. I have never used anything else and have to say that I have had no problems. But, a tip from the guy who does all my PC work for me, try a company called Carbonite. For a small fee they back up all of your information and it can be easily recovered in the event of a complete failure. Essential when you keep all of your buisness details in your computer.
