We just sold our boat. We are not dealers. Well, the next day the buyer said he had trouble with it. We took that boat everywhere!!! Before he bout the boat we offered a test drive he said no (must people dont). He could have had a mechanic come over. We even took 1000 off the asking price. We started the boat up ran it etc. He bought it and left. Now he wants to bring it back OR us pay for the repairs. He said a mecchanic said it should cost $500. to fix. So I offered him 200.00. I feel once it left our property it is on no out boat. And mind you I found out he hasnt transfered it. So he is riding around with our registration. I finlayy told him I will give you 200 back that is it. He feels what if it is something else?? We are not boat mechanics and he bought the boat. Finally we said we will give you 200 and that is it. Call back and give your address to my machine. He hasnt called. Are we liable for anything???

Any thoughts????

This is why is is so important to make sure you write "SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS" on your bill of sale. I would say since he bought it, it is his loss, not yours, and you shouldn't have even offered him a penny back!

Hind sight!! Ugh!! We offered to take him for a ride, showed him a vidoe and even took 1000 off the price. I mean I am not a warrenty company!!If we do now what is going to happen 6 months from now?? Boats are noturious money pits!!!!! Boat stands for bust out another thousand!!!

If this guy continues to demand more money, I would tell him to look for an attorney and you will meet him in court. In the meantime I would look for one myself (just in case). You can tell him that you have contacted your attorney and he has advised you that you have no commitment to him. Leave the ball in his court and if he feels passionate about it let him go the legal route. He may just find that it's not worth his $$$.

Going on what Mona mentioned, was there a bill of sale and what did you have on it? Did you get paid cash or check and did YOU write on it paid in full? Looks to me, going by what you've just told us, this guy may be having second thoughts or be trying to get money out of you. Good luck, hope everything works out.

I gave him a signed title. I also had a noterized bill of sale with the amount pd with cash and the date. Along with the VIN numbers. He signed it and so did I. The boat was only in my name. I didnt put as is. It is a 20 yr old boat, I know I should have but I didnt. I called NJ consumer affairs. They said he could take me to court but wont win. I am not a dealer so it is buyer beware.

My husband will fix things up and sell them. This was our own boat. We took it in the ocean with my 70 yr old dad. Took it to firworks over night. We even had the boat out days before we sold it. I mean what could we do???

We bought a car once the next day the coild went. Cost us almost 2k. I didnt call the seller. It was a done deal!

Tell him to take it to Judge Judy. You sold it. He bought it. It is Buyer Beware".

I hear you but I hate when people arent happy. But what could I do?? I cant go riding with them. Wsp if they dont know what they are doing. We are going to email him tonight and wrap this up.

Just because you didn't put "as is" on the bill of sale, means nothing. You are not liable for anything. He signed the bill of sale so you are covered as far as him riding around on your registration. Did he sign the title too? Or did you just give him the signed title? Not that it really matters since you have the bill of sale. I wouldn't even offer the $200...tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine. I'm glad you got cash and din't accept a check...I'm sure he would of stopped payment on it.

Update! Thanks for everyone's support. I needed it.

We sat down and emailed him last night. Telling him the boat was in running order. We ran it for you, offered a test drive, sent pics and lowered the price. If he continues to call we will consider it harrassment. I blocked his number. I suggested if he thought we did something wrong he should seek legal adivce. but we are done.

I feel sooo much better. Next step would be him taking us to court. And belive me this boat was in tip top shape. I think he wanted to use a boat for his vacation and try to return it!!!

He is a grown man I dont think he wants trouble with harrassment. I said caling s/one 3-4 times everyday after you buy sthing off of a private sale is just unusual!!! We bought a Navigator and the next day coils went. It was over 1000.00 we didnt call the seller. Its life!

Thanks I will keep everyone posted

I blocked his number and now he is calling me from a different number. I am blocking that number. He is really starting to harrass us now!!!
